Feeling the heat

Daljeet Kaur, aka Suhana of Santaan and her co-actors, felt claustrophobic and sweaty since there was no AC on the sets; they had to redo the make-up nearly six times a day.

The cast and crew of Shakuntalam Films' Santaan went through a harrowing time while shooting at the studio, Lata Kunj in Vile Parle. The studio does not have air conditioners and to cap it all there are sharp lights under under which the actors shoot for almost 16 hours. As a result after every take the make-up would get smudged and the actors had to redo the make-up. The whole exercise became a pain for the cast and that's when they put their foot down. Eventually the producer was forced to shift the venue from Vile Parle to another studio in Andheri.

Says a unit member, "As the studio did not have an AC, it became claustrophobic for all of us. Especially for the actors, who are supposed to look good on screen and have to wear a lot of make up. Constant lights affect the skin tone and if we don't correct it by re-touching they start looking patchy. In this studio, most of the actors, especially females had to rush to the make-up rooms after every single shot. We used to shoot on the first floor, and the make-up rooms were upstairs. So, it became a time-consuming process for all of us and delayed the shoot very often."

Daljeet Kaur, the lead lady Suhana in the show, says, "It was a horrible time shooting over there. It used to be very hot and claustrophobic. We had to refresh our make-up several times in a day and had to run to the make-up room after every single scene. Thankfully, our producer realised it and we have shifted to Andheri which has very good infrastructure."

Neelima Bajpai of Shakuntalam Films confirms and says, "It was very tough for our actors to shoot there. They can't look bad on screen, but the claustrophobic environment coupled with heat made it just impossible. For their multiple make-up and touch up sessions, our shoot suffered a lot. So, we decided to shift the venue. Now, everyone is happy and we are relieved too!"
