'I will be back with a bang'

TV actor Avinash Mukherji, who played the young Jagya in Balika Vadhu, talks about life after the show and his current role gaining prominence

Avinash Mukherji became a household name with Balika Vadhu (BV), after playing the young Jagya. Then he disappeared from the small screen only to emerge briefly in a grey role in another show, Sanskaar. Now the young actor claims, "I will be back with a bang."

Post his successful stint, Avinash went back to studying. "I was focused on completing my 10th standard exams. I did get many offers including Parvarish, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Punar Vivaah, but I couldn't do them. I took up Sanskaar as it was different and I knew it would bode well for my career," he says.

Avinash made a grand entry on the show, where he played a boisterous character that was diametrically opposite to his role as the dutiful son Jagya. However, after his entry, Avinash went missing from the series. "Other tracks were being developed, but soon my track will come back," he says.

Did he get worried about not being visible on the show? "Yes, I was a bit restless about the development of my character, but after a chat with the makers and the channel, I realised what

they had in store. So, I waited patiently. There were reasons why my track wasn't in the forefront, but soon my character will be prominent," he says.

Like his former co-star Avika Gor, who is currently playing the lead in Sasuraal Simar Ka, he feels confident about his career too. "I know where I stand and what I'm capable of. I'm not insecure. As for comparisons with Avika's career, her show is in the third year and mine recently completed 100 episodes. I don't watch her show, but I think she is doing a wonderful job in the bits that I've seen. The toughest part is to convince the viewers that you are a married woman when you are only 15. That's commendable," he says.
