Telly Award... revisited!

The Fifth Indian Telly Awards was an event that brought back a lot of memories for all of us working behind the scenes. But it was a time when the biggest stars on television came together to make the show a success. While most artistes who performed at the awards missed out on the actual airing on Sony on 3 December, we decided to ask them how they felt about being part of the show, in retrospect.

Chaitanya Chaudhary

I saw the award's telecast on 3 December, and I feel it was over all a great event but when it comes to my performance, I am extremely critical about it. I actually expect a lot from my end and feel that it could have been better. Of course, I got very less time to rehearse because of my schedule and may be that was the reason why I could not give my very best. Apart from all this, I have already received numerous compliments on my act.

Sangam to introduce a leap

A long running show is always incomplete without a leap which offers new twists and tales to the show. Keeping up with the trend is Star Plus' Sangam. The show is all set to take a leap of six to seven years which means that there will be new entries, an attempt to generate more viewership.

A source from the show informs, "There will be leap of six to seven years and three new faces will be introduced in the show. Two of them will be aged around 16 -17 who will essay the role of college going students and one will be a six year old kid. The shooting is expected to start from the third week of January and the leap will start airing from February."

So does this mean that the focus will now shift from the current leads Chaitanya Choudhary and Jennifer Winget to the new faces? "The leads would remain the same and in fact, the two stories will run parallel to each other. The two protagonists will help the story to move forward along with the new faces", quips our source.

Industry is also abuzz with the rumour that the show will go off-air in the early half of 2009. A source from industry says, "Sangam isn't doing as per expectations of late and the show is tipped to be pulled off in the first half of next year. The channel is planning to put an end to the slot completely."

"These all are baseless rumours. I have been hearing this every second day since the past six months. We are planning a leap and I don't see the show ending anytime soon," quips our source from the show.

When contacted, Chaitanya Choudhary too retorted, "The news is rubbish. I keep getting calls on a daily basis about the status of the show. We are not going off-air."

Well, we take you at your word, Chaitanya, but in an industry as unpredictable as ours, one can't be so sure about the fate of soaps!

Rajeev-Aamna sizzle at the Telly Awards
(28th November 2005 4:00 pm)

Rajeev Khendalwal and Aamna Shariff got back together after nearly a year to scorch the stage with a sizzling performance at the fifth Indian Telly Awards, held at the Chitrakut grounds in suburban Mumbai on Sunday evening.

With Aamna drawing the audience's attention with an awesome foot tapping, Intezar Hai, Rejeev joined into transform the act into a steaming one with his steps on numbers that included Main Yahan Hoon and Aapki Kashish. If anyone ever had doubts about the duo's sizzling onscreen chemistry, these would have been doused with one glance at the acts that left the audience begging for more.

Rajeev-Aamna's dazzling performances were followed by matching sizzlers by Iqbal Khan who rocked the stage with a pulse throbbing piece on the already hot platform left scorched by Rajeev Aamna. He forced the audience to tap their feet on the very lively Bachana Aye Hasino.

Yet another scintillating item was that of the leading ladies on the stage with Reena Kapoor, along with Neha Bamb, Shweta Tiwari and Narayani Shastri shaking a leg with numbers like Meri Bindiya, Main Albeli, San Sanan and Badi Mushkil. The ladies rocked with beautiful and heavy attire making them look as well as feel confident.

What more could anyone ask for??? The ever so hot and sizzling Chaitanya Chaudhary and Vikas Sethi along with Karishma Tanna and Mansi Verma added to the spice with Kiss Me, Aiyashi, Baras Ja and Aikhyam. The rocking team of four made a splash on the stage with ravishing done up outfits. And now's time to give way to the bad ladies, Urvashi Dholakia, Tassnim Sheikh and Rucha Gujarathi captured the stage with their hips swaying to the tune.

Yet another duo that added even more excitement to the alluring event was Eijaz Khan with Shama Sikandar who boogied on Deedar De, Makhna Ve and Nasa Nasa. The most expressive of the lot was Eijaz who seemed to actually enjoyed his part. As far as Shama was concerned, she turned out to be the one with the most awesome movements. Could one have asked for more?

He has made quite an impression as Akshat in Star Plus' Kahiin to Hoga, stealing the limelight from Rajeev Khandelwal <hey youu, itz not true !!!>. In a bare all interview, Chaitanya Choudhry tells Prashant Golecha about life after Kahiin to Hoga.

Chaitanya Choudhury

Tell me something about yourself…
I have been born and brought up in Mumbai. I used to act in plays in school. My father is a documentary filmmaker and my mom was a theatre actress. I have done my MBA in marketing from Pune. I have also done a course in export management. Education was always a top priority.

How did Kahiin to Hoga happen?
I had done Dev Anand's Love at Times Square and Kalpana Lajmi's Kyun. I have done modeling also for Samsung mobile, Samsung printers and TV commercials like that of Nyle shampoo. I was also third runner up in 2001 in the Gladrags Manhunt. I was also titled Mr. Photogenic. Actually, a big production house selected me for a film, which eventually didn't materialize. I consulted a director friend and decided to do television. I auditioned for the role of Akshat and took up the offer. I hadn't even seen Kahiin To Hoga before taking up the offer.

Are you seeing Surveen Chawla?
We were newcomers. From co-stars turned friends and there is no love angle. Our on-screen chemistry is good. When she was new, I used to fight for her performance. We are quite comfortable with each other.

Describe your ideal woman…
She should be tall, attractive looking and above that she should be a good human being.

What is your idea of romance?
Just to be with the person I love.

What kind of offers you are getting?
I am getting a lot of offers particularly of offbeat movies. Right now, I want to concentrate on Kahiin To Hoga.

Your character "Akshat" has become as popular as "Sujal". Comment.
I don't know. Rajeev Khandelwal who plays Sujal is a very good friend of mine. He keeps joking, "you are stealing my popularity". Acceptance of my character was tough initially. With time, the character evolved and I was accepted. But Rajeev is still is very popular.

How do you feel on the adulation you got?
It feels nice. Fans from Pakistan call me. It is amazing some of my fans arranged my residence number and started giving calls. My parents were surprised.

Do you feel an actor needs to be compulsorily good looking on TV?
Good looks does matter. If one is good looking one at least gets a break. For example the lead of Kaavayanjali who wasreplaced after some time got the offer because of his looks. Looks does compensate for acting to some extent. Acting improves with experience. But in case of long term acting is of paramount importance.

If Kahiin to Hoga leaps, will you agree to play an older character?
I don't know. It depends on the situation. I don't think a leap is lined up so soon.

Do you think working on TV means earning good money?
Yes, it pays well.

Do you still want to do films?
Yes, I want to get back to films.

Star Plus releasing clone of Ghar ek Sapna

Now, a desi soap from Fox's stable

M Aparna (HT City)

New Delhi, January 16, 2007

Star India's international sibling, 20th Century Fox, will make an afternoon soap for Star Plus in the coming months. It is part of News Corp that controls Star.

While Star officials are tightlipped about the new show, sources say the story has been finalised and Chaitanya Chaudhary, popularly known as Akshat in the Star Plus soap Kahiin Toh Hoga, has been chosen to play the lead.

Chaitanya, however, was not available for comment. The rest of the cast is still being worked out. Sources say the story is about a high-flier who visits a small town and falls in love with a local girl though he has a steady girlfriend back home. The channel is still to finalise the female lead.

The story is similar to that of Ghar ...Ek Sapna that started yesterday on Sahara One. Created by Ajai Sinha, Ghar..., tells the story of a guy from Mumbai, who visits a town in Bihar to attend his friend's wedding.

However, he himself is coerced into marrying a local girl by her dominating brothers. She then travels to the city with him, only to realise he already has a love interest.

Sources say the shoot of the untitled show on Star, will begin in the first week of February and the show is likely to go on air on March 5.

Pahlaj Nihalani is the line producer

Chaitanya Chaudhary

I had a girl walk up to my house once and leave a chit, with her number on it, on the door. It was very scary, as I didn't know how she managed to find out where I lived

Dancing Star postponed till June?

Star Plus' new reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Dancing Star has been postponed, and one of the reasons stated is the upcoming IPL season...

It seems that Star Plus is not having a very good time with it's reality band of late. After a not so successful Nach Baliye 4 and the premature ending of Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano comes the news that Jo Jeeta Wohi Dancing Star which was scheduled to air very soon, has now been pushed back to June.

The latter show which includes winners and contestants of earlier reality competitions is a continuation of last year's Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star, which will pit the Champions V/s Challengers. But this time, the only difference is that the singers will be replaced by dancers. Some of the names being discussed are Rajeshwari-Varun Badola of Nach Baliye1, Aamir-Sanjida( winner Nach Baliye 3), and many more. The latter duo who had also partially anchored Nach 4 confirmed that they had heard that the show had indeed been pushed back. About their participation, Aamir says "I want to do realty show in 2009 and may be Dancing Star could be my choice".

Kashmira Shah and Krushna who won Kabhi Kabhi Pyaar Kabhi Kabhi Yaar who are approached for the show say the main reason for delay is the IPL. "During this time the whole country only wants to watch cricket", says Kash. But a source who did not want to be named added that besides IPL, one more reason could be that the channel could not find the correct combination of dancers. Our khabru questioned the choice of Shama Sikander ' Vinod Kambli of Ek Khiladi EK Haseena.

Rakhi Sawant who won Yeh Hai Jalwa and finished runner up in Nach Baliye 3 has also been approached, but she is adamant on not dancing with ex beau Abhishek. "How can I dance with him? He is not my partner anymore. I have told the channel that, I will dance with my choreographer and we will rock the dance floor", says Rakhi. This assertion coming from the item girl queen is not working well with some of the other possible jodis. One of whom quipped "Rakhi and Abhishek fights and patch-up are common. You never know, may be they will again come together for Jo Jeeta".

Further, the possible choice of Karishma Tanna and Mouni Roy from Zaraa Nachke Dikha teaming up as Champions has not gone down well with team mate, Ashita Dhawan. "Its surprising that the channel did not choose me, for it was my contest with Bhaktiyaar which ensured our girls' side the win in this Star One show. Ironically Bhaktiyaar has made the cut along with Chaitanya Chaudhary for the same show.

As of now, the teasers of the show that was on air has also been withdrawn, and viewers will have to wait longer to see this battle between the Champion Dancers and Challengers..

Chaitanya kicks-off 'Monday Blues'
by Vidhya Krishnan
Feb 02, 2009, Bangalore

It takes a while to kick-start the week for a lot of people and most experience the Monday blues. For our weekly column, 'Monday Blues', we caught up with Chaitanya Chaudary to get his views on the subject.

Do you get Monday blues?
In my field, I don't know how a Monday is as the work schedule is not fixed and the breaks could be on any day.

So how do you feel on a Monday?
I never feel dull after breaks but rather look forward to work. But I only hate it if I have an early morning shift.

What have you planned for the week?
It is the producers who plan and my job is to deliver. It all depends on the work schedule and changes frequently.

Three tips to beat Monday blues'
~ After waking up, just freshen up yourself and have a cup of coffee to get you going.
~ Always look forward to work.
~ And love what you do completely and nothing else will matter.
