Chapter 2
"Randhir, Sanyukta will brief you on the project...Sanyukta I suggest, please sit down with him and go through the project..", Sanyukta heard her boss speaking , She nodded at him and went on to arrange the files..
"Vidushi, please mail me that report today before you leave office...I have to go for a meeting now..so see you all tomorrow.." saying this he went out of the room..
"Sanyukta...err..i will just go and complete the report , else boss will kill me tomorrow.." Vidushi said "oh, welcome to the team Randhir...nice to meet you" she added before leaving the room
Randhir smiled back at her and said.. " Thanks "..
Sanyukta found herself alone with Randhir...a situation which she had feared...she had so hoped that Vidushi will be there with her..but luck was not on her side today...she took deep breaths, and decided to go through this meeting with Randhir, and keep it as short as possible...she kept reminding herself not to fall weak..She did not know for how long they just kept standing , looking away from each other, the silence between them was deafening...Finally she decided to break the silence..
She looked towards Randhir and said..." Please sit Randhir...umm..I will brief you on the project..."
Randhir hesitantly looked at her, and went on to sit beside her... Sanyukta moved her laptop towards him, and proceeded to explain him...after sometime Randhir pulled his chair near towards her , to get a proper view at the slides, and this is when, his hands brushed against Sanyukta accidentally. Sanyukta, jerked away , startled, she could not believe that Randhir's one casual touch sent those same sparks down her spine, reminding her of those days that were still fresh in some part of her mind...she gulped, as her heartbeat rose...
Randhir noticed, how Sanyukta had become stiff all of a sudden, he backed off and said " Sorry, I did not mean to"
Sanyukta nodded silently and proceeded to the next slide...after sometime she, sat back and said
" Randhir, I think that's enough for today...i will explain the rest tomorrow"
"yeah..sure..no problem" Randhir replied..
Sanyukta hurriedly, went on to clear the table, her hand shook as she worked...it was better when they were in engrossed in work, but now with nothing left work related to discuss, she felt nervous, fearing what might Randhir say, it was unnerving how he stood there , staring at her as she wrapped up the work, she wished she could tell him to go, but she found herself tongue tied, as so many emotions went on inside her heart and mind...
"Sanyukta..." Randhir said, hesitatingly "I.."
"Randhir...I think you should go now..." Sanyukta cut him off
"Yes, I am going...I just wanted to say...Sanyukta...I..." Randhir tried once more
"Randhir...I have a dinner appointment with my husband...and I cant be late...can we talk another time..." Sanyukta on purpose put a stress on the word husband...
"Yes, sure...I forgot, you have a husband, a family..." Randhir laughed nervously... "sure will catch up later on...have a nice...dinner"
Randhir in brisk steps left the conference room, leaving Sanyukta alone...
As soon as he left , she let her tears which she had been holding for so long come out...she sobbed and sobbed, putting her head down on the table, and sobbed till she had no tears left...with a aching heart, she left the conference room and decided to reach the restaurant directly...
It had come as a blow to Randhir when he had seen Sanyukta in that conference room, of all the places in the world he had to take up that project which belonged to the company where Sanyukta worked...the five years that he had been away from Sanyukta was painful, but seeing her again after so many years was even more painful...nobody ,only he knew the amount of pain he had felt...it had been five years and he has not yet moved on...there was no one in his life...after Sanyukta, he never fell in love again...he preferred to drown himself in work, and shut away everyone else from his life...He was happy to see that Sanyukta at least had moved on, has got married, may be has kids also...he had always dreamt of having a family with Sanyukta...but as it is said, that's what will happen, that's written in fate...it was not in his fate to be with Sanyukta...but at least he can be happy for her...he knew as he saw the shocked look on Sanyukta's face on seeing him, that it had must have been really hard for Sanyukta to forget him...he had noticed how hard Sanyukta tried to establish the fact that she was married , it was like she was determined to prove that she has moved on and that he had no right to interfere in her life anymore. He did not intend to interfere in her life either, he knew stepping in her life, will only create problems for her, and he did not want her to be in any problem. He decided to keep himself as far away from Sanyukta as possible, and will just interact with her professionally. He had seen how she had tried to keep their conversation short. He really had no intention to make her uncomfortable, but he had such an urge to know how she was...5 years was a long time and he could not stop himself from initiating a conversation with her...at one moment, he had felt like taking her in his arms and engulf her in a bone crushing hug, kiss her , and take away all the pain that he had given her...but he knew it was now too late..he swore to himself, that after this project gets over, he will make sure to disappear from Sanyukta's life once again...
Sanyukta sat at the restaurant and waited for Dhruv to come...after about 15mins Dhruv arrived, smiling broadly...
"Hey, you look tired, everything fine?" he asked looking concerned..
"Yeah...just tired..too many meetings.." sighed Sanyukta...
Dhruv noticed that Sanyukta was quieter than usual, as they ate the food...he asked softly "Sanyukta are you feeling alright? You look a bit sick..."
"I am fine Dhruv..." said Sanyukta and suddenly to her horror , she felt tears running down her cheeks...
Dhruv feeling scared asked... "Sanyukta , what happened...did anyone say anything to you..?...please tell me...you know you can share anything you want with me..."
"Can we go home please?" sobbed Sanyukta..
"Yes off course...lets go..." Dhruv paid the bill hurriedly and got up to take Sanyukta back home...
