Her infuriation wasn't just the cause, her desperation and helplessness were the major contributors to this icy cold relationship she shared with the one boy, who she had given her heart too.
Why was it so difficult, for him to open his heart to her, to accept her. She wasn't caring like Sanyukta or funnily clueless like Koustuki, but she was perfect in her own way, and she knew that.
Or was it only her way to pacify herself?
As she walked out of the canteen to the basketball court, her slipper caught on a rusty old nail, jutting out of a chair. She struggled to set it free, instead it tore.
She took them off and flung them to the side. It was like she was in a trance. She felt restless as she heard the sound of the ball dribbling. Her heart lurched. She knew it was him. It was like god had programmed them to meet in this turmoil.
She followed the sound as she came into the court. There he was dribbling the ball, running on the court as he scored a basket easily.
Her thin shirt clung on to her body, a sudden shiver passing through her. His shirt was flung on the bench.
Her eyes traced the fine lines on his back that flexed along with his muscles, every time he raised his hand to shoot a basket.
Her mind was so lost in the form in front of her that she didn't notice, when her bare feet trod over a sharp piece of glass, that lay among the shattered lamp that had crashed to the ground, due to the storm.
She cried out in pain, as the feeling seared through her entire form. The cut was deep and she could feel it. Blood oozed out of it.
A warm trickle of tear slipped out of her eye as she gasped in pain.
He saw her condition and bounced the ball away, as he rushed towards her.
'Shit! You're hurt' he said.
'No, its fine, I'll manage' she said snapping out of the trance.
'Don't be foolish! Show me the cut' he said as he crouched beside me.
'No...I'm fine...I..I'll manage' she said stuttering seeing his bare torso as the drops of rain washed over it.
He didn't argue as he took her feet and placed it on his knees for her support. She winced at the touch, not in pain, but in pleasure.
His touch sent her mind and body reeling. He blew lightly over the cut.
As the warm breath tickled her skin, she gasped and sighed
'Parth'
'I'm here' he said, his voice low and deep.
Those words sounded so fake coming from someone who she had given her entire world to and who in return, didn't want her or love her back.
'Let me be' she said as a tear splashed from the corner of her eye, onto his knee.
In the peltering rain, she possibly thought he hadn't noticed the tear stained face of the sad and lonely girl standing above him. He had felt it, yet he chose to ignore them.
Not that he wanted to. But he was forcing himself to. Because he knew that there was no hope, no future for this relationship. She was right, they were similar, two poor broken souls, fighting for their survival and existence in this cruel society.
But he chose to believe otherwise, that everything would be alright. God would set things right. But she knew, that nothing was going to be fine. Maybe the fact that she was stronger than him, or that she always managed to shatter his false hopes, drove him to insanity.
He had the memories of the love of his life, whereas she was all alone. That loneliness and solitude made her mean and self-concieted. But that was what she was portraying herself to be. Trying to build a wall around herself so that no-one could get past that to her vulnerability.
But he had seen through her, broken those walls, and as much as he hated the fact, but he was drawn to her, attracted to her.
He knew it was impossible that his mind or heart should be open to the idea of anyone else but Arpita. His insides revolted and that troubled him even more.
He was fighting a losing battle with himself and the memories of the love, that was never to come back.
Despite all this he couldn't stop himself.
'Why are you so adamant Vidushi?' He said as he pulled out the shrapnel with one a quick tug.
She cried out in pain and it was like a thousand knives had stabbed him instead.
He stood up to face her, masking his feelings so well that no-one could tell.
'Why are you so ignorant?' Why don't you realise this is so hard for me' she said crying hard now beating her small fists on his chest.
Her nose had turned red, as the rain-drops splashed onto her face and rolled down.
The mask dropped to the floor and shattered into million pieces, just like his heart did, seeing her so exposed and so vulnerable.
He caught hold of her wrists and pulled her face towards him cupping his hands around her cheeks.
'I do! I do understand. This is hard for me too' he said. Touching their noses together as she continued to cry.
'Do you know how it feels to have your heart crushed every minute, to watch, your love, not love you back, to feel so alone...' She continued between her heavy sobs.
' I know! I do it every minute, to stay away from you! To keep myself away from you! To not want you, to not need you! To not feel you' he burst out saying, tears rolling down his eyes too.
She was shocked beyond words to hear all of that from his mouth.
But she was even more taken aback when he pulled her in for a kiss.
Her eyes immediately shut, as she felt the need and urgency in his kiss. His hands went around her back, while hers were pressed against his chest.
With every kiss their bodies inched closer as the rain peltered on even harder than before.
He knew this was wrong. Yet it felt so right. It felt like he belonged here, with her. Vidushi was a broken angel and he was a fallen one. Hell and heaven couldn't understand them.
He kissed her neck and sucked on the areas above her adam's apple. She gasped and moaned
'Parth!'
He thought of Arpita and his kisses became deeper, which made her clutch him tightly, digging her nails onto his bare-back.
'Arpita'!
He couldn't stop himself from moaning back immediately regretting the minute, those words came out of his mouth for Vidushi pushed him away, the next instant.
Tears sprang to her face, her lips bruised from the kisses they had just shared.
'So its her' she said quietly.
She turned to go but Parth caught her hand and pulled her back sharply, such that her back was against his chest.
'No! She left me when I needed her the most. But now, now I have you. He said slowly.
Tears continued to leak from her eyes, and he could feel it. He sucked at the nape of her neck.
Making her moan yet again and say
'Don't...I'll not be able to stop myself'
He swung her around such that she was facing him now.
'Then don't' he said. That was all that she needed to hear, as she dragged his mouth over hers. Forcing his mouth open with her tongue, as she bit his lower lip earning a satisfactory moan from him.
She kissed him like there was no tomorrow. She didn't know if this was just a heat-of-the moment thing or a forever thing, but she wanted to live this moment for as long as it lasted, even if it meant to be shameless.
She moaned into the kiss as he lifted her up, wrapping her legs around his torso. She fondled his hair, as she kissed him deeply.
He tore his mouth away from her panting as he said
'I need you Vidushi! promise me, you'll never leave me alone.'
'I promise' she said, those two words more of a whisper to her-self, as she sealed them with another one of her passionate kisses.
And someday, they believed that their broken souls will mend and they'll learn to smile all over again.
