International day of older persons is celebrated today and on this occasion our STAR Plus' older generation share their wealth of knowledge and advice with everyone. Check out what daddaji, nani, badi beeji and nanaji have to say.

Daddaji from Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

With age, older people develop many problems and illnesses are part of it. Often having to take care of old and sick people takes a toll on younger family members. But my family has provided me with a lot of love and support and I am truly fortunate to have such an amazing family. My advice to everyone would be to spend some time with the older people, your dada, dadi in your home and try and understand them.

Nani from Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?

Even though I am a senior person in our family, I never let it affect my enthusiasm and energy levels. I love to joke around with everyone and even play pranks on them. I would tell all senior citizens to never consider themselves old and always try and maintain a lively disposition as this is what makes them approachable to youngsters.

Badi Beeji from Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hain

I am a happy go lucky person and I ensure that I share a special rapport with all the members in my family. I always give them a patient ear when they are facing any problems so that they feel free to tell me anything. I am more like a friend to them than an older family member. It is very important to develop a good rapport with the younger generation.

Nanaji from Pyar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyara Pyara

During my early years, I was too busy with work and often did not spend enough time with my kids. It is very important to spend time with your children and guide them in the right direction. As the elders of the family, it is our responsibility to tell our kids what is right and wrong so that they don't go astray. But we should try and give this advice in a mild and loving manner, so that our kids understand.

Baa from Saath Nibhaana Saathiya

I believe that children and grandchildren should respect the older people in their family. Older people can share a lot of ideas as they have a good understanding of things and experience about life. In today's times, the older generation is often neglected and taunted, but the younger generation should be made aware that these were the very people who took care of them earlier in life. Respect for older people is a must.

So on this International Day of Older Persons do remember to spend time with older people, understand their feelings, respect them and provide them with a loving environment.
