A large part of the shows success will depend on how audiences react to their pairing. And a lot depends on whether they will be able to "spark" each other off.

But if it is more comedy they will be catering for a very different audience who will not be looking for the romance as such as the laughs. In which case they could be a perfect foil for each other.

I loved I Dream of Jeannie and used to watch it when I was a kid - that and the Monkees were my favourite shows!!
But I don't understand the casting of Ali Asghar especially as the channel say they want to keep the show as true to the original.
The character of the Major is a handsome man with a great career as an astronaut if I'm not wrong. Jeannie falls in love with him at first sight not because he rescues her from the bottle but because of the physical attraction (or have I got this completely wrong?)
Surely the male character didn't need to be a comedic actor as such? He should be a dashing type who is baffled by Jeannie and always getting into situations due to her magic. Giaa's casting is good if they are planning to stay true to the original but if they are planning on changing it and iving Ali Asghar more gags then it feels like Giaa's character mat well just be an attractive foil.
I'd much rather they cast a younger man because then it would be a good adaptation.
However a part of me does think this is destined to be much more Ali Asghar's show than Giaa's which is a shame.

I agree. A younger man would have been much better off. The major was portrayed as a handsome man. Wonder why they chose Ali? It's like they are saying that younger men cannot carry off comedy. Oh well. The powers that be know what they are doing. (I hope.)

I think the whole focus is going to be on the comedy and it is going to be very slapstick.
I think they do a disservice to the younger actors though!! There's many who do carry off comedic roles very well. The story is as much a love story as a comedy.
Maybe the powers know what they are doing!!

sab do seem to cater to an entirely different audience so I assume they will know what will work for their target market. while this will be good for ali we will have to see how it pans out for giaa.
