It has been many days since I have watched Saathiya. And I have a few thoughts about the show, Rashmi, and Star Plus.
The ratings have taken a huge drop since Giaa left, and I am left to wonder what Rashmi and the production house will do about this. The fans have spoken, and the majority is not pleased with Devoleena as Gopi. I believe that if Dev continues as Gopi, the show will die. Is this what the writers want? I can only speculate at this point.
I am hopeful that whatever problems took place, can be resolved soon, and that pride will not get in the way of continuing what was a successful show.
Ahem is working hard to carry the scenes for Devoleena, but it's simply not enough. Exchanging Devoleena for Giaa, is like trying to exchange apples for oranges, and it is not ever going to work.
There is no chemistry between Dev and Ahem. The way that Dev portrays Gopi's facial expressions, is like watching a blank slate with nothing taking place behind the eyes. There is no soul in the character anymore, and what we have now is an empty shell.
Remember Giaa as Gopi, running passionately right into the fire to save her husband? That passion, yearning, and desire is not present in Devoleena's Gopi.
Giaa's Gopi has grown up, into a strong woman, who is intelligent, innocent, and loving. I don't know what Devoleena is trying to be, but it is not Gopi.
A love that has grown betweeen Giaa's Gopi and Ahem on the show, was something that took time, and this love was ever present and palpable ... and now it is gone. It's just a woman acting a part in the show with her husband Ahem. No fire, passion, nothing...
The relationship between Giaa's Gopi and Koki is just not there now. There is no chemistry or character strength taking place between Dev and Koki.
I truly hope that Rashmi will reconsider the "rules" about what the actors and actresses can participate in, in their contracts, and give a little more freedom to it's actors to explore different things without fear of being fired.
I hope Rashmi will bring back our Giaa, and allow the pregnancy and birth be portrayed properly, and not empty and languid the way Devoleena acts.
Devoleena is a beautiful actress, but she cannot act Gopi. She does not embody that character at all and she appears as a stranger in the casting, the set, and the storyline. She's just a fill in, and has no passion for this character. She has had enough time now, to pick up the pace, grab hold, and bring Gopi back alive. I do not think she can do it.
At this point, I have little hope for this show that I grew to love. I don't see it continuing, and if it does, I cannot watch it until Giaa returns.
