But if so, then what did he want to say to Gopi on Holi?? I had thought then that he wanted to confess and bhaang had reduced his inhibitions.

And if he's been in love for a long time then why after Holi, he never tried to confess. So, I am very confused now.

I thought he fell in love with Gopi around the time of her accident (where she nearly died in the hospital). That's when his feelings become very obvious because he was about to lose the person he loved.

I'm not sure when he exactly realized it and admitted it to himself since the audience rarely gets a glimpse of what is happening in his mind. But he definitely realized before or around Holi and the magic ladoos helped give him some courage to do something (even if it wasn't confessing), haha.
