Ahem was pipped to the post. Before his confession of love was told, Gopi's dilemma was revealed.
Ahem's expression moved from shocked to baffled, to perplexed, to confused, to why did you not tell me about it, to did we really do it? when? where? how?, to ah...worked it out, to was it really then?, to how can it be so? He wore many expressions through the revelation and family joy of his wife being pregnant.
His eyes looked on at her whenever she was not looking at his, and when she did look worriedly at him, he darted his eyes in every direction but at her thinking and processing his thoughts.
Initially he wanted to talk to her to enquire and tell her things. If this happened months back he would have openly contested and humiliated her with his anger. His heart did not have the strength to do this. Her Gopi-ism had mellowed him so much that today he was passive and was left working things out in his mind.
He knows that if there was any time where he was unable to recount his memory it had to be the Holi afternoon. What followed on from there was her dressing up that evening, him scolding her resulting in her distancing herself thereafter. However, he did ask her to tell him what had happened that afternoon but she had merely excused herself and went into the bathroom.
He softened his expressions when his mum, kaki and Jigar had congratulated him but his talking eyes and facial expressions gave away what his racing heart was feeling. He wanted to clarify all these thoughts but would have to wait for the evening to do so.
He did not want the attention his family was sending his way and quickly told his wife he was going, greeted his mum and left.
Ahem's family have been taken aback in recent days of his acceptance of love for his Gopi. No one in the household could ever imagine, especially his mum when she looked on at him after hearing this news, that Ahem could actually have had an intimate moment with Gopi knowing of his behaviour towards her. As the saying goes ... still waters run deep - this is what Ahem is.
When he does eventually get to see his Gopi in the the evening, what could his conversation be?
