Chapter 2

Jigar turned towards his best friend and gave a wide smile. Aham gave him a thumb up showing that he knew how jigar was feeling. After all they had been best friends from their young age. They knew each other inside out. Their's was a friendship based on love, trust and most important of all understanding. To top it all they shared the same surname of Modi. So it was normal that they were mistaken for brothers at most of the places and they never bothered to correct. What was the use, when they shared the same feeling? Being only sons to their respective parents their friendship was more of a brotherly kind. He was not surprised to see a group of girls eyeing aham. It was a known fact that aham was more handsome than him and there was a charm which made girls fall at him.well not all girls. Except for the one aham want most. He was now slightly worried for bringing aham with him here. He did not want any thing unpleasant to happen. Still a promise is a promise that to made to a friend cannot be broken. It was hetal, jigar's mother who broke their thoughts: jigar, aham do you want to stand here and day dream

Jigar: no mom

Hetal: well then get going. I see you in laws coming here. I think you guys don't need any lecture from me.

It was chirag who save them from more advice from hetal. After the initial pleasantries, they made their way towards the holi celebration.

Aham: so how do you feel?

Jigar: excellent

aham: are you sure she will be here?

Jigar: will you dare to miss my engagement?

Aham: no never.

Jigar: same for her. I even confirmed it.

Aham: I still can believe that you lied to me.

Jigar: aham, we have gone through this already. I told you I promised her. So just shut your mouth till we get this over. One word then you are finished

Aham gave a fake action as if he was afraid: okay. I promise to behave, or else I know I have to face two murderers after my blood.

Just then aham realized that he had left his mobile in the car. He excused himself and went to get it. He was so engrossed in his thoughts; he did not hear the whole commotion going on behind his back. It took aham a few second to realize there was lot of shouting behind him. He was just in time to see her.

Ah how many years had passed since he had last seen her? Five full years. Five years of hell. Five years of heart ache. Images one contradiction another flashed in aham's mind. There were lots of changes in her in these five years. From a teenager she had grown into a lovely woman. Still she looked like a minx from the land of fairies. She was dressed in white salwar with her dupatta tied to her side in a knot. She was being chased by a group of kids with color in their hands. It seemed they were trying to color her and she was escaping them. Her laughter was filled with fun. It was the same laughter he missed all these years. It was the same laughter he had dreamt of and spent sleepless nights worrying about her. In her game to out run those kids, she did not see where she was running. And to his shock he realized that she was running straight towards him. He stood their frozen and mesmerized by her. His brain was shouting at him to move, but his heart refused to accept it. It was just a second before she hit him, gopi turned and looked aham. She stumbled and he tried to help her. But they hit the ground with a thud with her on top of him.

Gopi had been hiding in her room, when the kids found her out. She had promised to get them ice creams if they managed to color her. Actually it was her idea to avoid meeting him. She knew that he will be there and also that she was not ready to meet him. Unfortunately the kids found her hiding place. What began as fun ending unexpectedly. She was concentrating not to hit the decorations and avoiding the kids, she failed to him standing there. On seeing him, she stumbled and with more force hit him, eventually falling on top of him.

The whole world stood still except of them. Aham could not believe his luck. When he came there, he was not even sure if he will get to see her, now he was rewarded with something to remember for a life time. Just as him, he felt gopi too lost in his eyes. If had the power, he would have made the world stop there, to relish this moment forever. She was his love, only his. Even though she broke his heart and left him to suffer he can only love her. He can never hate her. Just then he realized gopi's expression change from shock to pain to sorrow. It clenched his heart to see the pain in her eyes. To his disappointment he found gopi struggling to get up. The kids chasing her choose the moment to color her and aham found himself drenched in different holi colors. Soon they were surrounded by the whole group giving high five and shouting in joy.

Gopi: stop stop. Why are you guys shouting in joy?

Kid: di we managed to color you. It was the bet right. we won.

Gopi: it was the bet but no. you did not win. I fell so you guys managed to color me.

Kid: di this is not fair. Bhaiya tell di. We won right. She has to buy us ice creams.

Aham was amused at the scenario. He knew how to make her accept that the kids won. Ofcourse by taking her side: I think what your di says is right. Since she fell you colored her. Other wise she would have won.

Just as he expected gopi turned in a huff calling: I want no one support. rakesh bhaiya, can you get all these kids, ice creams they want.

She had not changed in that area. He knew she hated when people sided with her and did the opposite. He was right again. Round one was won smoothly.

Aham had a silly smile on his face when he reached jigar and his family. Jigar gave him a quizzical look and almost laughed seeing him covered in color. Aham gave him one reply: gopi. On seeing his bright smile, jigar's expression flattered. Though he did not want to show, he was not happy to know that aham had met gopi. It had been a long time since he saw this smile on his friends face. All he wanted was to see the two important people in his life happy. But fate had made a different destiny for them. It seems their life was connected with pain, rejection, misunderstanding rather than love and happiness. Jigar could not bring himself to think about the future. He was not sure how aham will react. He was not sure how aham will accept the changes in gopi's life. he did not want to see him suffer more than he had experienced. He did not want her go through all those misery she had struggled to get out. He had long back stopped trying to bring them together. He had left things to fate. If they were destined to be together, they will be. But memories of sorrow are difficult to be erased than happy ones.

Eight years back.

ARMS Institute of business management, Mumbai

Six months into their first year aham and jigar modi were the heroes of their batch. They had everything one can dream of. Aham was the only son of kokil and parag modi, who were into the modi group of hotels, while jigar was trained to be the CEo of the modi constructions. While kokila was stern with them, hetal pampered them a lot. The boys friendship brought their fathers together into a co operative business agreement. both their mothers saw the other as the son they never got to have. So the boys had money, good looks, were toppers and a loving family. This gave them an attitude that they are irresistible. Aham was always the best in the two. He was a great charmer and got his way with the lecturers. If there was a big group aham will be the centre of attraction. Being with aham gave the spoilt brat tag to jigar too. He never minded it as long as it made them popular and popular they were. It was a life they enjoyed. It was into this life she came in and delt a blow to the big ego of jigar modi.

It was love at first sight for him. But obviously not for her. He was on his way to the library on a errand from one of the professors. Cursing his fate for making him late for lunch and for the treat planned. Just as he came near the revolving door, this girl came out. She was talking to someone behind her and missed seeing him. Books flew on every side. Grumbling he picked a few and handed it to her only to stop in his track. Lovely was an understatement. In a pale pink salwar which reflected on her face, her hair slightly pinned up, she looked beautiful. Jigar could not understand how he had missed this beauty for so long. So he ended up asking

Jigar: pls can we do it all over again

Girl: what?

Jigar: may I know you name?

Girl: that is none of your business.

Jigar:I m sorry. Since you know who I am I will skip the introduction part. So can…….

Girl: hello. Are you the president or prime minister of india, that I know who you are by just seeing you. Ah what a big headed egoist.

She turned to her friend saying lets go. He was also able to catch her saying: thinks he is the king of old. It's good I put him in his place. Jerk. He heard the other girl giggle and turn around to give him a mocking look. This was the first time jigar had such an experience. It was the first time he met and fell in love with his future wife rashi shah
