No it wasn't only Anita that was stopping Aham from loving Gopi, education and he perceived her to be a gold digger those were the big issues for him.
When he agreed to his mother's choice for his wife, you could tell that look at the mandap before the wedding, Gopi was late to come, the Modi's arrived and Shah family hadn't come yet, when he saw Gopi that look of appreciation on his face that his mother has done a good job in choosing Gopi, even in the car after the wedding, his look at her when her dupatta got stuck to his bracelet, even in the initial stages of their marriage he had accepted her as his wife, he slept on the bed with her, and when Kinjal was being cheeky to Gopi he told her off, in front of Gopi and forced her to apologise to Gopi and treat Gopi well...she brought him kadar and he took the cup, whilst looking at her, he spat it out because he thought it was tea...lol, when Aham found out she bought an expensive necklace and charged it to him, he was angry and came to challenge her, she revealed no he bought it for her (Kinjal had done this misunderstanding to cause their marriage to break up), Aham said no-way you need to be in love with someone to buy them a gift and he turned away from her to say he loves Anita (I don't believe him, he thought she was a better match for him, he said that out of frustration...just put yourself in his footsteps his married a girl for his mother, he had a girlfriend that he broke off with to marry this girl, and now the girl seems to be a gold digger, buying gold and charging it to him...also one the first day of marriage Kokila punished Gopi by putting every piece of gold she owns on Gopi to stay the whole day with it, and Gopi didn't tell Aham why she had all that gold on her).
So Aham was thinking she's greedy gold digger, then Gopi tried to prove no you don't love Anita you love me I have a letter to prove that you love me, and she went to take the letter and off course the letter is saying I love Anita and I don't want to marry you (written by Kinjal again, Gopi couldn't read, Rashi read it as saying Aham loves Gopi and eagerly wants to marry her). Gopi confesses she is an illiterate and can't read the letter, when challenged to read by Aham...Aham is in shock and asks why didn't you tell me and mum she says I did, to you (he was day dreaming) and to you mother as well, he got angry and slapped her for lying that she told them this. So when he found she was gold digger and illiterate he told her sleep on the floor, and when she washed his laptop, he'd had enough, mum it's her or me, ended up in Gopi taking back her vows and the pallu and hide your face etc.
So all in all I conclude he was willing to accept Gopi but on knowing she was greedy (misunderstandings caused by Rashi, Kinjal, Kokila) and the fact she was illiterate caused him to reject Gopi. He often told his mother I can't accept Gopi that Ghawar that means Villager.
Well he doesn't think she is greedy anymore and she has taken steps to educate herself, that is why now he is accepting her as his wife.
