Hey everyone I have written an OS about Gohem. I hope you guys enjoy it.
One evening Ahem was sitting at the edge of his bed. He was watching his wife ,slowly taking off her bangles from her arm. Gopi neatly placed her bangles into her box, she then took the box and placed them in her cupboard. Just as she was placing her box in the cupboard, Gopi looked out of the corner of her eye and saw Ahem was staring at her. I wish he would not stare at me like that, it makes me feel uncomfortable. Gopi hurriedly took out her books ,pens and notepad and made her way to the table , and began to work.
It had been a month since his Mom and Papa's anniversary pooja had happened. It was meant to be a happy,joyous occasion .On the other hand that day Ahem felt so embarrassed , he just wanted the world to swallow him up there then. All because of Gopi. However the way he spoke about Gopi , in front of his mum that day made him feel ashamed. Was there any need for him to call Gopi a gawar, in front of the whole family? Hmm Ahem thought,but it was the wakeup call ,Gopi needed.
Nevertheless, he found out why his wife had been acting strange. He just thought Gopi had gone cuckoo, that was only when his mum explained what had happened. He just could not believe that Rashi pretended to be a bhoot to cause problems in his relationship. Yes it did make him angry, but he could not also help laughing at Rashi's desperation. No matter how much Gopi annoyed him she did not deserve to be treated like this.
A moment or two later , Ahem thought, well you are no better than Rashi. He remembered the times when he shouted at her for the most petty things. I called her illiterate so many times, even ridiculed her in front of my own mum, I have humiliated her, destroyed her confidence. Am I just as bad as Rashi?
But he had to thank Rashi for one thing, that Gopi used her imitative and realised that it would be better for to be educated.
Hmm Ahem recalled the moments where Gopi before she had started to have some education. Firstly when she held the Kinjal wedding fiasco together, the Dhawal credit loan saga and when she won the Switzerland contract. I have just never thanked her. Even during Switzerland, a stranger could say well done to Gopi, but why couldn't I ? Did I feel superior to her?.
There had been many numerous occasions, where Gopi had helped the family, he just never thanked her, or even acknowledged her.
Ahem ran his fingers through his hair. Wow am I such a horrible person, that I could not even say a simple thank you to my own wife. Mum was right my heart is made out of stone.
Ahem watched his wife, quickly writing away. Bewildered, Ahem thought , why is she writing so quick? Its only been a month. what the hell is she writing. Ahem felt curious , 'Gopi why are you writing so quickly?'.
Gopi slowly dropped her pen and turned around. 'I..mm practising some sentences.' Gopi said as she looked at Ahem.
Gopi quickly turned around again and began working again, few minutes later Ahem watched Gopi as she closed her notepad and opened her reading book.
Ahemji I am struggling , with this passage. Can you help me? Gopi spoke nervously.
Ahem narrowed his eyes, and glared at Gopi. Why did I ask Ahem for help , he doesn't want to help, look at the expression on his face. Gopi thought.
Gopi hesitated , stood up ,picked up her books.' It's ok ,I'll go and ask maaji.'
You Idiot Ahem, she was asking you for help? And you just go and glare at her. You've called her 'gawar' plenty of times, but when she asks for help, you just stare at her.
Go on Ahem ,help her, you are all for education,
'Wait, I'll help you, there is no need to disturb Mum' Ahem spoke sternly.
Gopi shuffled over to the edge of the bed where Ahem was sitting. Her head bent down. Why does she have to cover her head? Urgh ,it really irritates me.
Trembling, Gopi nervously sat next to Ahem , and began to read.
An hour had gone by, even through there were some mistakes,Ahem thought that Gopi had managed to read very well. I'm really glad, that I stopped Gopi, hearing her read to me, felt really pleasant. Strange isn't it , before I could not stand the sound of my own wifes voice, but when she read to me, I felt really delighted.
'Gopi you know ,you read simply perfectly.' Ahem saw that Gopi was blushing,
'Ji thank you'. Gopi spoke quietly, giving Ahem a small smile. Gopi saw that it was getting quite late. She was about to stand up, when she felt something holding her down. She looked down and saw that Ahem was holding her hand tightly.
'Wait there are something's I would like to say.' Ahem said.
Puzzled Gopi sat down. Ahem thought. I do owe her some explanation, why I behaved so badly . She is making such an effort with the education. Shouldn't I make an effort and apologise for my behaviour.
But where do I begin?. Gopi quickly removed her hand from Ahem's palm. Oh my Ahem thought . Look at the fear in Gopi's eyes. Is this what I have done to Gopi, made her a nervous wreck?
Ahem recollected the moment, where he woke up , to find that he was holding Gopi's hand. He snatched his hand so quickly from Gopi,that he caused Gopi to gasp in pain,. but know Gopi has snatched her hand away from me so quickly. Could my own wife, be that terrified that she would not let me hold her hand?
Ahem began to speak, 'The past year I have treated you so badly.I have been such a bad husband.' All those wonderful moments you have done for me and not once I said Thank you on my own accord.' It's just that I felt you being not educated, that I could not accept you. '
Gopi looked down, she did not want to look at Ahem, as she felt terrified, that his mood would suddenly changed. She remembered the snake incident, where one minute he was saying thank you , the next shouting at her.
Ahem saw that Gopi was not looking at him. I am trying to talk to her, and that stupid pallu , is in the way . He took his hand and removed the pallu , covering Gopi's head. Startled Gopi looked back.
'Now I can look at you, when I am talking' Ahem said . 'I have been such an idiot, I can't believe it. I am so sorry for calling you an illiterate so many times. The amount of times you have helped, me out of the goodness of your heart and not once I appreciated it.'
Gopi silently nodded . why isn't she anything? Ahem thought. I am telling her all this but she could at least say something. I know I have been such a fool.Gopi bent her head slightly. Hmmm Gopi murmured. There she does it again, why can't she look at me. Before she would stare at me no problem. But know she doesn't ? Frustrated Ahem said 'will you look at me?' Gopi looked up. Her brown bambi eyes staring back at Ahem. Her eyes swollen filled with tears. Why is she crying? I haven't shouted at her. Feeling annoyed . Ahem thought no . I can't sit here any longer, I am trying my best here and she's crying even though I haven't raised my voice. Really I can't go any more longer.
However, without realising Ahem blurted out. 'Gopi ,why are you crying? Have I said anything to upset you?
Gopi shook her head 'No I am not upset Ahemji. How could I be? I am just happy .
Happy ? Ahem said looking confused.
'Yes, happy that my husband is talking to me so nicely.' Gopi said as tears streamed down her cheeks.
The wind howling, in the background, echoing throughout the room.The curtains flapping. Then the reading book , flew open, a piece paper fell into Ahem's lap. Hmm what's this Ahem thought. He curiously opened the piece of paper and began to read. Oh looks like some homework Gopi's teacher set . Wow, the answers Gopi have given are really well thought out. Ahem turned over the piece of paper. The question read 'Who is the most special person in your life.' It simply read my Husband.
Oh my, the amount of suffering I have caused, for Gopi she still thinks I am special. Ahem felt his heart melting for the first time.
Ahem smiled at his wife, 'From now on , I will make sure I stay that special person in your life.'
Ahem took his hand and gently stroked Gopi's cheek tenderly. He then lowered his head and placed a kiss on his wifes forehead .
For the first time Ahem realised the importance of his wife was to his life.
'Gopi , you are the most special person in my life too, from now on it's my promise to look after you.' Ahem said sweetly.
Gopi buried her head into Ahem's chest and murmured 'I love you Ahemji' Ahem felt his spirits lifting up. To hear those words from his wife felt electrifying.
Ahem bent his head and whispered into Gopi's ears 'I love you too.'
