Part 39

It has been almost three weeks since Gopi's tests for the bonemarrow compatibility were started. They finally received the news that Gopi's bonemarrow was a perfect match, and the operation would take place in next two days.

Everyone had been worried and tense for the past two weeks, especially Ahem. He had been successful in distractinig Gopi, so far, from his fear and worries but he knew she sensed that something was wrong with him.

He had reverted back to his previously angry persona at work because of his fear of loosing Gopi. At home he was, he was quiet and withdrawn from evreryone.

His mom had tried to to talk to him several times, but he just blamed everything on fininshing his work, so he could be with Gopi. He didn't want to worry his mom unnecessarily with his fear, she had enough to worry about Gopi and also Kinjle , who will be ready to deliver soon.

Meanwhile, Gopi knew her Ahhemji was worried for her and she didn't know how to reassure him.

He may have been angry and snapping at work, and queit and withdrawan at home, but with Gopi, he was nothing but gentle, loving husband.

Everytime she tried to talk to him about his worries, he would manage to change the subject and distract her in one form or another to avoid talking about the surgery and what would happen.

Gopi was determined to talk to Ahem about the operation at that very moment, she had decided to put her foot down and make him talk to her.

She walked into their room, closed and locked the door, then turned and observed him.

He was seating on the cocuch, his laptop in front of him on the table. He was starring at the screen, but not working.

When she walked over and saw that he was just starring and brooding at the blank screen, she closed the laptop and stood in front of him.

Ahem was startled out of his thoughts by someone closing the computer. He scowled and looked up, bur immediately relaxed when he saw Gopi standing in front of him, with afrown on her face, hands fisted at her hips and foot tapping.

He looked around and thought uh oh, she caught me this time. His going to have to try to distract her quick so she wouldn't ask any questions, but judging by the look on her face, he knew he might not succeed this time, but he was willing to give it a try.

"Hi, sweetheart," he took her hand and pulled hard so she would stumble on to his lap. When he had her on his lap, he immedately locked his arms aroud her so she wouldn't be able to move.

He then moved her hair out of the way and started trailing kisses down her neck and back up, to her jaw, and then her right cheek, when he tried to kiss her on her lips, she stopped him by covering his mouth with her hand.

Gopi had forgotten what she was going to say to him as soon as he stumbled her on to his lap and put his arms around her, his kisses made it even worse.

He was about to kiss her on the mouth when she remembered she didn't want him to distract her, so she put her hand on his mouth to stop him.

Ahem took Gopi's hand off his mouth and kissed her palm and pressed her hand to his heart, he then came close to her to try to kiss her again, but she moved her head back to stop him.

Ahem moved back and looked at her. "What's wrong?, do you know how long I've been waiting to do that? All day, now be a good girl and give me my kiss."

Gopi tried to move out his arms, but he wouldn't let her. "Ahemji, don't try to distract me today, I want to talk to you and you alway manage to avoid what I want to talk to you about." she pouted at him.

Ahem was amused by her pout and the scolding tone. He summoned up a smile for her and said, "its nothing, I am just try to get all my work done so I could be with you at the hospital."

He could tell Gopi was not convinced. Gopi frowned at him, "Ahemji, why are you trying to hide the fact that you are really worried about my surgery?"

Ahem leaned his head back on the chair and closed his eyes and thought he had tried to hide his worries and fear from her as long as he could, but now she is not going to rest until she makes him talk about it.

"Gopi, Abhi told me what you had gone thru when you lost the baby, and how they had alomost lost you because you bled so much. You had gone thru that whole experience by yourself, I don't think I would survive if something happens to you again." Ahem opened his eyes and looked at her.

Gopi took his face in her hands, "Ahemji, don't you think that I am also scarred and worried? As the day comes near I fear that this is all the time I have with you, how can fate be so cruel to give me this happiness one moment and snatch it away the next."

"I am scarred that I will go to sleep on that operating table and not wake up, that I will loose everything, you, your love, our family, everything. But I need to do this, not only for Priya and my brother, but also for the sister that I couldn't save." When Gopi finished talking she was crying openly.

Ahem hugged her to tightly, he also had tears in his eyes. "I am so sorry, I've been so selfish this last weeks and was unable to see or understand your worries and fear."

Gopi moved back and said, "I need you to promise me something, promise me that if something does happen to me, you will not revert back to your angry, brooding self and you will move on with your life."

Ahem frowned at her and moved her out of his arms and into the chair. "Don't be ridiculous Gopi, I am not making any promises like that, because nothing is going to happen to you." He stalked towards the window.

Gopi stood up and went to him, she stood and watched him for a few second then she stood behind him and put her arms around him, then closed her eyes as she rested her head on his broad back.

Ahem stiffend at first, then relaxed into her arms, he reached down, took her hand in his and gently pulled her in front of him. "Gopi, don't ask me to make a promise like that, because I just can't do that, how can I move on with my life, if you won't be in it?"

When Gopi still looked at him with pleading eyes, he hugged her to him and said, "And now I don't want to talk about any of this anymore, we will leave everything in Kanaji's hand and hope and pray for the best."

It was easier said then done, and they both knew this, but they both also knew that they needed eachother more than ever in these next two days, so they both decided to put their worries aside for the moment.

Ahem took Gopi's face in her hand, leaned down and kissed her on the lips, the kiss was comforting and gentle at first, but quickly turned to passionate. They didn't talk for rest of the night. They spent the night loving and comforting eachother.

Two days later...

It was the day of Gopi's surgery, both Gopi and Ahem woke up early, got ready and went to do the pooja, the entire Modi family had been waiting for them.

They perfomed the arti and took everyones blessing. Kopi took the pooja thali and put tikka on both Gopi and Ahem. She then hugged Gopi and blessed her, everyone had tears in their eyes.

It was decided that only Ahem would go with her for the moment and the family would join him before they take Gopi to the operation theater, so they all could see her before her surgery.

When they got to the hospital, Rahul, Avni, Abhi and Ria were waiting for them. Gopi hugged everyone, saving her brother for last. They both had tears in their eyes when they hugged each other.

Gopi had spent lot of time with her bhai and bhabhi and little Priya in the past three weeks, getting to know them. Priya was especially precious to her, she looked so much like her sister Meera, and Priya in returned loved her Gopi aunty as if she had always known her.

Gopi inquired about Priya and was told by her bhai, that Priya was now in isolation since they had to give her high doses of Chemotherapy to get her ready for the transplant.

After a while a nurse came and took Gopi in the back to get her prepared for the surgery, she told Ahem the doctor would be out to discuss the procedure with him and to get the signature on the consent form.

After two hours the family was told to go see Gopi before they took her the operating room. The entire family piled into the room to see Gopi.

Each person took turn to wish her luck and bless her and stepped out of the room, leaving Ahem to spend few moments with Gopi.

He took her hand in his and leaned down. "Are you ready for this?" she nodded her head and squeezed his hand.

"Ahemji, are you ok?" Ahem looked back at her in wonder, and thought even now she is more worried for him than herself, and how can he do any less.

He reassured her, "Don't worry about me, I am fine, and know that I will be waitining for you." He kissed the back of her hand, "I love you."

"I love you too." Just than they came to take her to the operation room, Ahem after giving Gopi one last look, went out and took the family to the waiting room.

Two hours later, the doctors came to the waiting room and informed the family the operation was a sucess both Gopi and Priya were doning fine, Priya was taken back to isolation while Gopi was in recovery, and the family could see her in little while.

Evereyone was happy to hear the news and thanked Kanaji that they were both fine.
