Yes! Iyer wedding and the whole nine yards. only daughter of my parents and the youngest of the first cousins on either side. so attended by atleast 500 people each time (engagement, wedding and reception over 1.5 days). I had to change saree atleast 10 times -for each ritual. I was just tired of this dressing only. I told my mom to buy almost similar color sarees so that I can have one blouse for all of them. She was horrified. 😆
I also hated to be on display! but had to accept everything for my mom and aunt's sake.

@Madhu - 15 lakhs! Goodness! I dont think mine cost that much! I got married 12 years back. Still I had a very simple ritualistic wedding and we had one ritual after another for 3 days and before that some pooja stuff at home for 4 days. I took only 10 days off for wedding and all was over in rituals and poojas on either side. Both hubby and I had to attend a conference a week before wedding and both had to submit a paper 10 days after our wedding day. It was one of the most hectic time of our lives.

@Simran - Nine yards is a saree which actually measures 9 yards or 27 feet. It is tied in a special way unlike the regular saree. It is called madisar in tamil. this is worn by married brahmin women and a girl wears it for the first time during her wedding. It is generally red in color with a characteristic border weave design, but any color other than black and white is allowed. Technically, we are supposed wear that only after wedding and not the regular saree. But in modern days, we wear it during rituals and poojas.
