Naina! How are you darlin'! Have you come out west yet? If you have and you didn't get ahold of me, you are in SO much trouble! 😆 I really don't watch the show any more either, but every once in a while I'll drop by the forum. Too many friends here... Don't be a stranger!
Chapter 5:
The bride and groom were circling the fire slowly, as the priest chanted away the mantras and the entire family looked on happily, wide smiles on their faces as they saw the young couple finally tied together in that bond of marriage.
He filled her parting with the sindoor, clasped the mangal sutra around her neck, and then glanced up at her face, only to see pain, anger, and anguish in those eyes that stared back at him.
They were now officially Gopi and Aham Modi. Not Gopi Malhotra and Aham Modi, but a couple now, forever tied together in the eyes of the family.
How could it all have come down to this?
Flashback:
It was the day after the meeting at the Riverview Shopping Center. Aham was sitting in his office, attempting to work, but not being able to get anything done, as his thoughts kept reverting back to his conversation from the day before with Gopi. He knew something should be done quickly, as he had heard his mother and aunt in the kitchen earlier discussing going wedding clothes shopping, taking the two new bahus with them.
But that would not be. If Gopi and Aham had anything to do it, the mothers would all go shopping for one new bahu, and that would be Raashi.
Thinking this, he quickly picked up his phone and called Gopi's number, impatiently tapping away as he listened to the rings. One...two...and three....
He was just about to hang up angrily when he heard a breathless voice through the phone.
"Hello?"
Wow. Finally. "Does it take someone this long to pick up the phone? What were you doing anyway? We have to discuss the plan to get out of this Gopi." He started saying, only to be inerrupted.
"Woah there mister. This isn't Gopi, it's Rashi" the voice announced, annoyed.
Aham winced. Oops. His future sister in law.
"Oh ...uh...sorry Rashi. This is Aham, I just called to speak to Gopi" he answered, much more quietly this time. And in response, all he heard was a squeal, and Rashi's voice yelling out "GOPI DI! It's a call for you!! From AHAM JIJU!"
Aham wanted to bang his head on the wall as he heard his crazy, hyper, sister in law. Hopefully Gopi would take the phone away from her quickly he thought.

"We have no other option but to include them, do we?" Aham questioned Gopi, as she sat across from him later that day. Aham had picked her up that night on the pretext of a date, something which both families were only too happy to hear about. And the couple had come to the restaurant, only to discuss ways to stop this marriage from happening.
Gopi crossed her eyes as an exasperated look fell on her face, "If you and me could have come up with something, anything at all, don't you think we would have done so already? Trust me. Jigar and Rashi are highly intelligent and cunning little people who would know how to get us out of this mess instantaneously"
Aham held her gaze for a moment before giving a slight nod. "We'll tell them tomorrow then? You want to do all the explaining or shall I?"
"We both will, of course. It' not like only I'm against the wedding so I do the talking." Gopi was getting frustrated with this guy. Of course, he would want to shove off all the dirty work onto her. But no way, she wasn't going to give in so easily. Not at all. He would do his fair share of work, including talking to Rashi and Jigar.

The Next Afternoon: Lunchtime
Gopi, Aham, Jigar, and Rashi seated themselves in the cafe after picking up their sandwiches for lunch. "So Aham bhai, what was the meeting for?" questioned Jigar, a small smirk on his face as he continued "Have you and bhabhi decided to go ring shopping and need our advice?"
Rashi squealed with excitement, "Gopi Di! Really?! You and Jiju are going engagement ring shopping?! And you didn't even tell me" she pouted in the end, crossing her arms over her chest as she pretended to be angry.
Gopi and Aham just stared at them, wide eyed. Engagement Ring Shopping? Where did these two get all these crazy ideas from? They couldn't even stand the presence of each other, let alone actually picking out an engagement ring and getting married.
Gopi glanced over at Aham nervously, a queasy feeling setting in her stomach as she heard Aham clear his throat.
"I..uh..Gopi and I wanted your help in actually figuring out a way to stop this wedding. Not exactly in choosing an engagement ring." Aham laughed, the nervousness and anxiety in his voice apparent to the younger couple as they waited expectantly.
However, silence set in.
"Stop the wedding? Then me and Rashi won't be able to get married! Of course we won't help you figure out a way to do this!" Jigar said after a bit, looking at Gopi and Aham as if they had both gone absolutely crazy. Why would they ruin their own wedding?
Gopi gave her future brother in law an exasperated look. "Really Jigar? We didn't think you would be this stupid. Of course we don't want your wedding to be stopped! That's why we need a plan to stop only mine and Aham's wedding, not yours you idiot" she said, rolling her eyes. The corner's of Aham's lips seemed to raise just a bit with amusement as he saw his brother speechless.
However he also noticed that Rashi had been strangely silent the entire time, and when he glanced over at her, all he saw was a blank face, devoid of any emotions. Eh? But just as he was about to nudge Gopi, she had already called Rashi out of her trance.
"Rashi? Aren't you going to say anything? You both in or not?" Gopi asked, a slight plea in her voice although she appeared extremely confident.
The younger couple glanced at each other nervously as Jigar took hold of Rashi's hand and squeezed, offering a reassuring smile. And then, they turned to face Gopi and Aham.
What would be their answer? Will they help or not?
