Recently, many hyped serials went off air suddenly - Kulvaddhu, Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka and Kittu Sab Janti Hai among others. It's become so common to hear about a show going off air due to poor TRPs, leaving some actors out of work all of a sudden. We asked some select stars to voice their views on this highly controversial matter.
TRPs don't affect the actor, as serials don't run on sheer actors or star presence. It is the storyline and script which counts the most. Star value can at the most get the initial audience. If, on the whole, the project is good, it will run and if it isn't, it won't. TV serials are not sold Friday to Friday on star power. Take for example the serial Kulvaddhu, which was promoted well and had a good star cast, yet it didn't work. Certain characters like Tulsi become so popular that to replace it one needs to think many times.
Mazher Sayedd (Sameer, Kahaani Ghar...)
It's the TRP system that gauges the success of a show and channel nowadays. As an actor, I do my job to the best of my ability. If the serial is well-made, it is bound to work. Touchwood, both my current shows Kahaani and Saat Phere are enjoying a good spell and it does contribute in the view value of the shows as well as actors.
Ashwini Kalsekar (Adira, Jeete Hain Jis…)
I don't believe in TRPs though they are important for the serial's popularity. As an actress, I never felt guilty that due to bad TRPs, a serial went off the air. Acting is our job and I don't care for TRPs.
Naman Shaw (Nakul, Kyunki)
TRP plays an important role in the success of a serial. It's not the actor who has to be blamed but the creative heads are also responsible. So if the story is very good, the TRPs are automatically going to lift. Lastly, it depends upon the public choice.
Priyanka Bassi (Naina, Left Right Left)
I still haven't understood the TRP game and, as per our show, it is the best on our channel. The popularity of the show does not depend on the ratings but on the audience choice. Wherever I go, people say that our show is superb. We don't even look at the ratings.
