Faint-o-meter

The television industry's backroom shows high stress levels, back-breaking schedules, day-and-night shoots. Our actors seem to be falling like nine-pins, trying to keep us entertained through daily soaps. We provide a headcount of those who blacked out under pressure

Surveen Chawla
The lead actress of Kaajjal Sabbki Ankhon Mein Basi passed out on the sets after shooting for 11 hours at a stretch. Surveen says, "I had gone to Chandigarh for my brother's engagement.I fell ill there. But I had to report for shooting as soon as I landed here. I shot from 4 pm to 5 am. The next day, I couldn't handle the pressure and collapsed."

Gazal Rai
Pooja of Left Right Left passed out on the sets, buckling in to long hours of work. "Shooting for such long hours stressed me out. Moreover, the studio where we were shooting did not have an air- conditioning, and the place was unbearably hot. Also there was too much noise," says Gazal. However, she had to continue shooting the very next day, as the soap is a daily one.

Sharad Kelkar
The only actor on this list, Sharad fainted on the sets of Sindoor Tere Naam Ka and fell on a glass table which led to a serious injury on his arm. He was rushed to the hospital, and had to have a few stitches on his arm. He returned to the sets from the hospital and continued to shoot.

Mrinal Deshraj
She plays Shipra Arora in Kahiin To Hoga. She fainted twice on the same day which forced the unit to pack up for that day. The actress had been to Delhi to host a show and she went straight to the sets after returning to town. She is still shooting day and night as it is a daily and meeting deadlines is of utmost importance.

Gunjan Walia
The actress passed out on the set of Sahara's Kuch Apne Kuch Paraye. Gunjan Walia aka Krishna says, "The shooting hours were very erratic. When I was shooting the first few episodes of Kuch..., I didn't tell them about my illness. I continued shooting. My weakness showed on screen, so they scrapped some episodes and are reshooting them."

Aditi Pratap
The actress was also suffering from viral fever and fainted on the sets of Saat Phere. Yet she continues to shoot in full swing. "I was very ill and yet I had to come for the shoot. But it is nobody's fault. We are in a profession where we can't afford to fall ill. It is just that actors have to bear the brunt of the pressure all the more because we need to look appealing on screen too," says Aditi.
