Aditi Pratap is on a spiritual sojourn. She feels enriched with her daily chants, and on her way to shoots everyday, has prayer beads in hand and lights an agarbatti in the car. "It's mostly giving thanks; I thank God for just about everything."
Aditi features as art dealer Simran in the afternoon drama, Risshton Ki Dor (Sony) and has done a cameo in Twinkle Beauty Parlour (SAB).
The actress has always been interested in alternative healing techniques, astrology, numerology, hypnotherapy and the paranormal world.
"If you are a sceptical about such things, you will think this is all hogwash. But you if actually read and understand these subjects, it is a wonderful way to guide people — most of it is extremely scientific," says Aditi, whose character in the daily, Saat Phere (Zee), is also called Aditi.
Buddhist influence
"A while back, I was greatly influenced by Buddhism. I would chant the gongyu (morning prayer) and the daimoku (chants that can be said at any time of the day). "It is a wonderful experience, and provides a push to your inner strength."
According to Aditi, it is enriching to read about alternative faiths and what it has done to people. "It is highly motivating to read about people who have cured themselves of "incurable" diseases, through this. These subjects aid my learning process and add to my education," she says.
Inner cleansing
A while ago, there were many changes happening in Aditi's life, and she turned to spirituality. "I even consulted a hynotherapist, and my previous life unfolded in front of me like a film.
There are so many incidents in our present lives connected to what has occurred in our previous lives. That explains why we behave and act in a particular manner. It helped me clear all the negativity and think positively. It is all about cleansing your inner self."
Acting happened to Aditi when she came to Mumbai and had her portfolio shot. "I had done modelling while in college, in New Delhi. I came to Mumbai in my final year for a three-month break.
But one assignment led to another. It has been six years and I never went back. But I was a big Rekha fan as a child, and used to imitate her during her Umrao Jaan days. Somewhere, that acting bug remained."
Aditi is single and says that there is no one special in her life right now. "There are lots and lots of men around me, but no one in particular. I live in Bandra with my brother, Aniruddh. He has featured in a Falguni Pathak music video, and acted in the Star Plus show, Hello Dollie. He is now looking at the big screen." |
