Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) communicates with earthbound spirits, ghosts who cling to the living because they have unfinished business that prevents them from moving beyond the familiar plane of existence that we call life. Inspired in part by the work of famed medium James Van Praagh and of Mary Ann Winkowski, a real-life communicator with spirits, GHOST WHISPERER explores the spiritual side of life and death as Melinda navigates among the dead and the living in her sometimes chilling, sometimes heart-rending and sometimes amusing attempts to act as an intermediary between the ghosts and those they haunt. Jim (David Conrad), her husband, worries about the emotional toll this work is taking on his wife as they embark on a new life together.

In the current Storyline Melinda's husband dies but doesn't want to crossover and leave the wife he loves. Melinda although devastated by the lost tries to get her husband's spirit to leave. Jim doesn't want to – Jim realizes that he could enter a person's body at the point the body dies and the spirit leaves. Jim decides to do this to remain with his wife..

At this time Jim's spirit has entered the body of a dead motorist, however he soon forgets his life as JIm and becomes Sam. Melinda struggles to get the resurrected guy to remember something about Jim's life. Jim has now become physically Sam but tastes and feelings are all Jim…
