Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Sameer are top class lyricists. Prasoon Joshi is another one who writes good songs.

my fav. is Gulzar. Even though his lyrics seem to be abstract and complex few times but still i like the way he potrays the emotions/feelings and the usuage of metaphors. for instance like , " din khali khali bartan hai" ....depicts a deep meaning.

only a person with a sharp observation ability can import life's nuances in such a fine form ,the way he does.

Also I like Ajab Si by Vishal also. 👏 And I like Tumba Tumare Ishari by Javedji.👏 I also really like Gulzarji's. The last song Amanat Tuhjs naraz nahi zindagi by Gulzarji was mind blowing. 👏 I cried during that song.

Yes, never forget to credit the lyricist. They do such a good job at penning all of this wonderful songs for us to enjoy. 👏

Sameer definitely is not in the same class as Gulzaar and Javed Akhtar if you are talking from literary point of view. But Sameer is the most popular lyricist today. He has got 3 filmfare awards and is third among the current lyricists after Gulzar (9) and Javed Akhtar(7). Gulzar and Javed Akhtar are multitalented and have written film stories. Gulzar saab has also directed several films.

The Filmfare Lyricist Award is given by the Filmfare magazine as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films.

The awards were first given in 1953, however the Award for the best lyricist was first given in 1958.

Multiple winners include Gulzar (9 awards), Javed Akhtar (7), Anand Bakshi (4) and Shailendra, Shakeel Badayuni, and Sameer (3).

People may not understand Gulzar's poetry sometimes but somehow his songs still become superhits.
