I reckon it'd be fair to say that the amazing singers rake in the TRP's...SRGM was an extraordinarily popular show even before the makers adopted the new format...As a matter of fact,it was Himesh who upped his (un)popularity by getting people's goat
But his humiliating Raja was truly below the belt...HR might have won now,but I sincerely pray Raja is immensely successful in the long run....He bore Himesh's insults with a smile, never once voicing his disappointment or ire...👏
I did not say that the contestants aren't responsible for bringing TRP, too. They absolutely are. But, these reality shows thrive (ratings wise) on controversy and polarization combined with public voting - this creates a different level of interest. SRGMP's following is on a MUCH larger scale than it would be if it was still the old SRGM where the winners was based on judging, not public vote. Even though in terms of musical merit, the old show was the gold standard as compared to singing reality shows as of late.
I do not care for HR, his music, his personality, his idea of fashion, his topi, etc. His acting career, I won't even comment as I have no interest in seeing his movies. What HR did to Debojit and others in C-2005 and what he has done to Raja and others in C-2007....well, I will self-censor most of what I have to say about HR's role in all that because the only words that are coming to my mind right now to describe HR are not pretty and would probably get me banned for attacking a mentor. But, even so, I understand that HR brings polarization and controversy in spades, and that has served SRGMP's business interests. Love him or hate him, HR's dramatic personality makes him very good at marketing on an instinctual level. He is street smart (in a bad way as far as I am concerned, but that's just my opinion).
Now how long it will take for the public to get tired of Himesh, if they ever do, I don't know. HR got even MORE backlash during C-2005 days than he has during recent weeks with C-2007, but that did not make him any less popular. So let's see how much impact there is from C-2007 fallout. Love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion on HR, and this works in his favor, as so many folks pay attention to him just out of sheer curiosity. If people stop buying his music, going to his movies, watching shows that he appears on, etc., then I will believe that HR has fallen down, broken his crown, and his unpopularity has gotten to the point where it has backfired and he has become irrelevant..
As far as Raja's reaction to HR, Raja absolutely did great in terms of never playing dirty or stooping to anyone else's level. He had the best sportsmanship and always showed such sincere enthusiasm for his fellow contestants. However, Raja often seemed defeated/crushed by HR's bashing of him and it seemed to affect him performance-wise. In my opinion, Debojit from C-2005 had the thicker skin necessary to weather HR's bashing without seeming like he had lost any confidence. Instead Debojit kept improving so that HR's absurd questioning of Debojit's ability to sing looked even more absurd, whereas Raja's singing declined somewhat in between while HR kept berating him, which did nothing to disprove HR's claims. (I say his singing declined somewhat because I never felt that Raja was singing so poorly the way HR implied, and I completely disagree that there was any injustice in Raja making it into top 5, etc.)
