uhh the obvious answer would be that she typically sings indian songs, not american songs...

besides, american idol sucks anyway

oh, and also, people always go abroad to study or practice for whatever they choose to become. although i dislike mauli, i will back her up in this particular discussion simply because it wouldn't make sense to go against her decision to travel to india for srgmp. i mean, after all, she wants to become a singer. what's the big deal if she travels abroad to india to further her goal? many people do that; although, mostly you see people who want to become physicians travel abroad. nevertheless, there isn't much of a difference.

I do not think that people are critcizing her because she is from US but people are getting frustrated that talented singers are being voted out. People thinks that is it partially because of her friends and family with unlimited SMSs.
