Amanat has a great soothing voice and contrary to popular belief i think he can handle any type of songs- old/new, fast peppy/slow romantic rock/pop/classical with equal ease and come out of top. When he sings it seems so effortless that it is very hard to imagine that he is singing in a hard fought competition. Amanat's song on friday was enjoyable and made me listen again. But somehow he has failed to attract votes, maybe lacks connection with the younger audience for trying to stick to sad slow songs earlier. Like to hear some Mannade songs from him.
Poonam no doubt is a strongly focussed hard worker with a roaring voice like Jaspinder Narula, but i feel she should control her voice a bit because sometimes she sounds as she is shouting at the top of her voice which robs away the melody of a song like Laila me laila sung sweetly by a 15 yr old Nazia hassan.Once she had sung Aye dil e nadan but it wasn't enjoyable as she couldn't render the soft mellowness of Lataji. She can do great in high octane Punjabi songs. She could attempt some soft melodious tunes like chhotisi asha or behka hain man kahi.
Mauli has a western voice heavily American accented which clearly shows in her singing and her limitations prevent her from even remotely attempting soft/classical songs. I think she can do a good job in a purely english pop number. Her rendition of dekh le reminded me of a western singer trying to sing a hindi song. Like it or not she is the most popular female performer on the show.
Sumedha's voice is the best among girls which can suit any type of song. Now that Poonam and Mauli topping votes she is in for hard times with not many Chattisgarh people supporting her. She could be considered versatile if she can handle a classical composition and excel. If there is a choice between poonam & sumedha my vote goes to sumedha and certainly the one thing she can improve is the sur which sometimes seems to go flat and shaky. Her friday's performance was very good compared to Poonam and Mauli.
Junaid has got the most unique voice among all the contestants and conforms to hallmark of a great desipop singer. The only thing is the lack of consistency and as VS pointed going flat in the low notes. This young man sets the stage on fire one day and is a dud on the next. But he has a great pop future beckoning, and with the younger audience liking him and being the top international vote gainer, may as well end up in top three ahead of Amanat.
Harpreet is the silent performer on this show and giving consistently good performances but not those which stand out from the rest. He is hardly been noticed and already in the bottom many times before, looking at the recent trend of punjabi singers getting low votes he might not go too far in the competition.Naturally Punjabi songs are his forte and did well on Friday. He should come out of his coccoon if he wants to overtake his mates Raja & Junaid, otherwise he may be in for a rude shock soon.
Raja, the most popular male singer, strong rocking voice, excellent connection with the audience, great performances till now. But the big question is the non-versatility in song selection. On Friday for the first time in this show Raja sounded flat in the second half of the song and sometimes i feel he is trying too hard and the strain is evident on singing. He can clear all the doubts and confusion by may be singing a Jagjit singh or Pankaj udhas type of song like "hosh waalon ko khabar" which i'm sure he could do very well. Then there will be no stopping this Bikaner juggernaut from reaching the top 3.
Mussarrat, without any doubt an excellent qawwali/sufi genre singer which is turning out to be both an advantage and a disadvantage for him. I think he has lost the killer instinct and focus needed for a such cutthroat competition. If you are here to win a contest you should always be a step ahead of your competitors, performance wise. His limitations are evident and he along with Harpreet and Sumedha may form the next batch of eliminations.
Lastly coming to Aneek, this boy has been the revelation, the find of the competition. His voice has the amazing range and versatility which can only be matched by Amanat. He has been there done that by winning the bangla SRGMP and could well be the top contender along side Raja and Junaid. He bounced back on Friday with a fabulous performance after some lacklustre outing the previous week. But what beats the logic is that he ended in the bottom inspite of being the best singer in SRGMP. With Himesh making him do all the silly antics, he might lose out for all the wrong reasons.
Whew what a drill. Finally my take on the elimination probabilities in the coming weeks starting with:
Mussarat> Harpreet> Sumedha> Mauli> Poonam> Amanat last three being Raja, Junaid, and Aneek.
