I agree as well. If she can achieve 1% of what Asha Ji has, it would sure be some achievement.
I like Poonam but to compare her to Asha ji is not fair to the legendary singer or the aspiring singer.

i think poonam is really good, asha ji has made her own mark, but i am not sure if she is as good as ashi ji😛

Asha Ji was not born a legend , she is being called a legend after singing more than 30 years or so. Asha Ji distinguishes herself from others absolutely on the strength of her soprano like technical ability to handle the songs when at the same time not gifted with a acceptable good voice. Poonam also posses this trait . If there are composers who can take advantage of her vocal strength i think she could well be another legend. After all age of legend is not yet frozen. 😃

I think Asha ji has the best voice quality-sharp(in a way that doesn't hurt but sounds beautiful) yet melodious and that's the reason she has sung songs in all genres- from classical to western, ghazals with ghulam ali,..she has sung for western bands also....listen to any of her songs u wud never confuse her voice with that of any other singer..I hv heard about her that she once pointed out one guitarist from the entire orchestra playing for her n told him which wire was out of tune!!...that was her calibre..and in my opinion Poonam does not even come close to her in anyway...neither in technical aspects nor in voice quality(which is slightly husky btw) .Period.

When i said about her voice quality i considered voices of Lataji & Ushaji. I feel voice quality of both of them are sweeter compared to her. And her voice was not considered good when she started out singing. Asha ji herself had mentioned this when she had been a Mahaguru for the ongoing SRGMP when she recalled the incident when Kishore Kumar and Ashaji was ready at the recording studio , the recordist takes away the microphone saying "Un dono ko yaha kaun bulaya? Unk dono ka awaz bekar hain"

And i think there will not be many who will contradict me when i say that Asha ji is the most vocally versatile female playback singer. Regarding voice quality, opinion differ from person to person, this is my opinion anyway.

The ability to point an off tuned guitar shows Ahaji's musical ability even you probably can do that.

The real voice quality of the singers come out only after they start singing songs which are composed for them by really good composers.

The topic does say she could be next Ashaji.. and i feel Poonam has vocal ability to sing any technically challenging song bet it existing or new composition. 😃
