High Court has denied telecast of Zee TV's Saregamapa Challenge 2007episodes. The show has been using some of composed songs and music without attaining necessary licence. Hence IPRS (THE INDIAN PERFORMING RIGHT SOCIETY) and PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) organisations have jointly taken steps on 10th July in Delhi Highcourt against Zee Tv Enterprise Ltd to stop the further telecast.

IPRL is a non-profitable organisation containing of 1500 music composers, lyricists and publishers and it operates as a copyright society for its members. PPL is also a non-profitable organisation and its members are music companies who hold control over lakhs of domestic and international songs..

IPRL and PPL finally went to court last month after Zee Tv didnot stop using copyrighted songs which were under their jurisdiction besides repeated reminders.. If these Zee Tv doesnt come to some agreement with these two organisations the talent show Saregamapa Challenge 2007 will find it difficult to stay on air this week..

This law has been under the Indian Copyright Act of 1957 where no one can play or perform on copyrighted music for any commercial benefits without paying licence fees to IPRL and PPL.

It is evident that in such talent shows numerous number of copyrighted songs and music are used in each episode. And if the mandatory licence is not taken it is considered to be fraud.

All other talents shows normally take licence necessary before going on air. A gentle reminder was sent to Zee Tv and the matter would have been solved by then. But Zee Tv decided to turn deaf ear says the general secretary of the Indian Music Industry Savio D'Souza.

For now Delhi Highcourt has passed order that till next hearing the defendants (Zee TV) are restrained from reproducing, broadcasting, performing or communicating musical compositions or sound recordings of the plaintiffs (IPRL and PPL) organisations or any other foreign organisations withougt obtaining licence from the plaintiff.

Next hearing from the court is on this Thursday.. and Zee has to explain the court why they continued using copyrighted music despite of repeated reminders of acquiring licence.

i think its general license not limited to each song for the shows 😃

In that case they might have obtained the license for all these years , should have been valid for this season too. 😃

y'z zee bein dumb n nt usin copyrighted songs.. oh well im glad gt juniz add.. so can cht to him..! 😳
