| Running out of time: Sonu Niigaam | All's not well between Sonu Niigaam, Kunal Ganjawala and Kailash Kher over The Incredibles world concert to be held in the US, West Indies and UK.
According to a well-placed source, Kunal and Kailash have been allotted more stage time, which in turn has inconvenienced Sonu, who has been billed as the star of the show along with Asha Bhonsle.
Niigaam, who goes on stage fourth (after Kunal, Kailash and Asha) is not being given sufficient time to sing his quota of songs and thus has had to cut short his act. But the source adds, "Sonu hasn't made his displeasure evident yet; he is braving it."
Rushing his act
An insider who attended the show in Chicago on Friday, tells us, "Sonu is under tremendous pressure.
The authorities are very particular about time in Chicago. They do not give even ten minutes extra time after the deadline.
The show is three-and-half hours long, and Kunal and Kailash have been told not to exceed their 30-minute slot but they go on and on.
The remaining two hours were supposed to be divided equally between Sonu and Asha, and Asha finishes her act on the dot.
Since Sonu comes last, his time on stage gets affected because of the duo."
The source says that this issue has been brought to Ganjawala and Kher's notice, but it hasn't made any difference.
"They say they can't put a brake on their creative instincts as they get carried away by the audience's reaction. Many people from the show have tried talking to them but it's of no use.
The audience is not getting to hear enough of Sonu and is now feeling cheated," adds the source.
'Yes, it's true'
When we get in touch with Kailash Kher, who is currently set to perform in New Jersey with the tour, he sounds irritated and refuses to admit he has been performing beyond his time.
"Everything is under control. I am doing only what I am supposed to." Ganjawala is more forthcoming when he says, "A certain amount of miscalculation does occur."
When asked if the three of them have discussed this, Kunal is silent for a few seconds before saying, "Not really. But why don't you ask Sonu about this?"
Sonu, for his part, laughs off the issue. "I'm having a great time and the audience is awesome. I'm okay with whatever time I get, or rather, whatever they (other singers) spare for me.
Life mein sab kuch dekhna chahiye. The promoters felt I shouldn't kick off the proceedings as that would kill the show. I agreed."
However, TV actress Manasi Verma, who hosts the show, confirms that Ganjawala and Kher are indeed exceeding their stage time, and that Sonu has been rushing through his act.
"It's been happening, but it's okay. Sonu is still getting his share of the adulation." |
