Classical singer Sumati Mutatkar passes away By PTI |
Kolkata, Feb 28 (PTI): Classical singer Sumati Mutatkar died at a private hospital here today, her family said. She was 91 and is survived by her daughter. Mutatkar, who suffered from bronchial asthma, was admitted to hospital on February 24 with an acute breathing problem. She also suffered from chest infection. A recipient of Padma Shri in 1991, Mutatkar also received the Kalidas Samman in 2001, Akashvani Samman and ITC award. She was Director of Music of All India Radio from 1953 to 1956 and Deputy Chief Producer of Music from 1956 to 1958 and 1965 to 1968. She was elected a Fellow of Sangeet Research Academy in 1979. |
