Hmmβ¦ So I have to try a new Bengali recipeπ€β¦ Since, Bengalis are identified one with fish; here I am presenting to you 'Mahi Malai' for all π
INGREDIENTS:
Fillet of Bhetki fish - 500 gm
Freshly grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Khus Khus (Posto) β 2 tbsp
Mustard (Sorse) β 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1tsp
Chilli powder β 1 tsp
Green chillies β 2 to 3 and slit by the length
Tomato Paste β 1 tbsp
Dahi β 2 tbsp
Salt β To taste
Sugar β Pinch
Mustard Oil β 3 tbsp
METHOD:
1. Make a fine paste of khus-khus and mustard and keep it ready
2. Clean Bhetki; coat it with turmeric and salt.
3. Heat oil in a pan, and fry the fish β Make sure that the fish is fried only enough to get cooked, but doe not lose the tenderness. Take out and keep in a plate
4. Now in the same pan, add grated coconut, add chillies, sugar, turmeric and chilli powder for fry for a while
5. Add the khus-khus, mustard paste and the tomato paste β make sure that the coconut does not stick at the bottom
6. Add Dahi, salt, a 1 cup of water.
7. When it just starts to boil, add the fish.
8. Lower the heat, cover the pan, and let the gravy thicken
9. When cooked, take up on a serving dish and serve with plain hot rice
