😆 One thing at a time... you live alone? So you don't really have many Indian spices right.

1) Hing is an Indian spice with a unique flavor. It is a dried resin, available in "rock" form or ground. Ground hing is generally cut with rice flour, and is less potent. Hing is considered good for the appetite and digestion. It is a warming spice and contributes the pungent taste. Raw hing has an unpleasant odor. To release the true flavor of hing, you have to saut it in oil or ghee. A pinch of ground hing goes a long way.
Hing and mustard seeds sauted in Ghee are poured over cooked lentils for aroma and flavor. The mixture of hing and mustard seeds, along with other spices, can be used to season vegetables or to make fruit chutneys.

2) Mustard seeds ... they are small, black and round. I suppose you don't really need mustard seeds, though I've never had poha without. 😕 Mustard is also known as "sarson" ... you sure you don't have any?

3) Haldi .... Do you want to make the poha or not!? 😕 Grr! Hehe.. Come on! No desi household doesn't have haldi on hand.

4) Lemon juice ... oh boy! You really are a bachelor... no bottle of lemon juice at home either? Lemon juice is for flavor. Really...these are all esential parts of the recipe...else they wouldn't be included! 😛

I hope you know what sugar, salt, oil, chilies, and onions are. The coconut is not needed.

Looks like you're going to your local Indian grocery store tonight. 😕 Or a close desi neighbor or friend. 😆

Sims i am not planning for a Doctorate in cooking.. Let me just twp things if i go to the indian store what i ask for and what i ask for if i go to american store just the names and please simple english - so no Asoefeotida - i cant even say that!!!!

Adi.... dont make fun of a starving guy i am dying to eat poha!!, coriander - i wonder... i am sure i must have had all this but how the heck do i identify them in the kitchen or the store!!😆 i hope they are labelled.

Oh god!!!! Please do imagine me clutching my head in despair...because that was exactly my first reaction! 😕

Coriander is dhania...dhania is a green, leafy ... heck, I'll post a picture!

Just ask whoever is unfortunate to be working at the store tonight to help you get this stuff...though yes, everything is usually labeled.

The mustard seeds come in a packet! Not a bottle..a packet. So does the haldi...which is in powder form.

Arae I know these horrible seeds. i was jsut pulling his leg ....if u put these seeds in oil they never stay there but attack your face and go all about the stove and mess it up...its used for seasoning ...right? Actually with the paste of it mom makes lovely fish dishes..tastes very good...but during seasoning very unmanageable..

Qwerty WAIT!!!!!
Oh god! I can just imagine the poor store owners face when you go there asking for these things. Let me go over each ingredient for you.. oh god! Are you guys seriously this clueless??? 😕 Cauz you had me cracking up like mad with your questions and comments. Abusive language and such.. 😆 Gah, that's not enough.. I was literally clutching my stomach and laughing myself silly! Hehe

Hing...prononounced "heeng" I can just imagine you going to the store and asking for "hing" ... 😆 Go to the Indian store first and ask for this, the mustard seeds, the haldi and the poha. Also ask for dhania (the fresh stuff as shown in the pic) ... if they don't have fresh looking stuff, please go to some American grocery store and look for/ask for Coriander leaves. While you're at the american place, look for a bottle of lemon juice... not like lemonade... this is straight up concentrate lemon juice. If you're lost, just ask someone for lemon juice that you can use for cooking. 😕
Was there anything else ...?
