December 1st is World AIDS Day.

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 39.5 million people living with HIV, including 2.3 million children, and during 2006 some 4.3 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.

Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

Started in 1988, World AIDS Day is not just about raising money, but also about increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

Thanks for starting this topic. Even though it is not a saregama topic, I think it is worth talking about in any forum.Hope it is not locked very soon.

Scientists are trying to develop vaccine for AIDS. The vaccine is being developed by taking help from prostitutes who have been in the buisness since 1980 and still surviving. They are trying to study How these prostitute's immune system is able to resist the menacing virus of AIDS.

But the problem is virus in US is different from virus in India and which is different from virus in Africa.Virus keep on changing it self.God bless all the victims of AIDS and hope we have few vaccines to help people.More importantly, life style changes are so essential to avoid this virus. 😕

Thanks Vinnie for making this topic ...
Like someone mentioned above that there is need for awareness .. As you rightly pointed that it is still such a taboo topic even to have a conversation among educated people ...
I hope the awareness does spread, especially in a HUGE country like India ..

Keep on passing the RED ribbon ...

God Bless all those families who have lost their loved ones by this deadly disease and also give courage to the ones who are fighting it from day to day .. Amen !

Thanks for the topic.

I agree with you guys. It needs to be discussed more. There are several people who are trying but it still needs to be more widespread.

I hope that people would take some form of active action and pray for the ones who are strong enough to survive with it.

The children who suffer from it are truly just innocent souls and need love and affection and hope more people volunteer to help them out.

I hope and pray that there would be a cure or atleast a vaccine soon that could save the many lives which are affected.

I would say AIDS victims need to BE treated with love and respect. Most still are afraid to come out and say it and we need to make them feel that they are not going to be judged so that they could help us and themselves.

May god bless all of them and their loved ones. I am sure god will give them the strength to get through this as god could never make them go through something they can't live through! 😊

take care
