Surat, November 19: After a night of song a dance on Saturday, Himesh Reshammiya and his co-artistes came in for some grilling from officials of the Income-Tax Department.
Himesh, Indian Idol Abhijit Sawant, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winners Vineet and Hemani besides three show organisers were questioned for three hours about their income from the performance at the Indoor Stadium.
Sources said Himesh produced the Rs 12-lakh cheque received for the show.
Also among those questioned on late Saturday were city-based builders and diamond brokers Hiren Kakaria and Akash Agarwal. "We had sought their income and expenditure accounts for the one-night event to locate the sponsors.
The survey was conducted since we had some departmental information from Mumbai that Himesh was to be paid Rs 35 lakh for this show," revealed a senior official from the Investigation Wing of Surat Income Tax office. Adajan-based real estate agent Nanu Ghaswalla who secured advertisement bookings for the show, however refuted the claims as bogus.
"After the show, everyone was taken to Taj Hotel for questioning. I-T officials were upset because they had not been given free passes for the show," Ghaswalla claimed
