After garnering praises for her acting acumen, Konkona Sen Sharma will now be seen doing playback singing in her forthcoming film, Sunglass.
She says, "Sunglass is my third film with Rituparno Ghosh. And it's my first comedy. Although I did have light moments in Omkara, it was nothing like this film where I play this wacky woman with crazy powers," she says.
Compounding Konkona's happiness is the fact that she gets to sing for the first time. "Yes! I'm actually singing in Sunglass. It's a song written by Prasoon Joshi. And since I'm doing it in Hindi and Bengali I need to be very careful. Do I have a singing voice? Oh, we shall soon find out. But I do hum when I am alone," she says.
The actress has a lot to hum about. "You know, I used to admire Jayaji's earlier films so much. The way she emoted, and her whole personality exuded so much warmth. And now Jayaji is playing my mother in two films!"
Konkona is thrilled by the thought that she'll have Jaya as her mom in Sunglass and then in Pradeep Sarkar's untitled film for Yashraj films. "Since, I haven't met her I'm very nervous and excited. We'll be meeting just an evening before we start shooting on Nov 1. And that's rather sad. I guess we'll get to know each another during the shoot. So Pradeepda will reap the harvest of our compatibility," she jokes.
Mention of Pradeep Sarkar's film brings a sparkle to her voice. She says, "It's so different in mood to Sunglass, so Jayaji and I get to play very different mother-daughter pairs in both films."
She admits she's kicked by the thought of acting with Rani Mukherjee who plays her sister in Sarkar's film. "Rani was so good in Black that I've looked forward to actually sharing screen space with her," she says.
From being known as an 'arty' actress, she is now part of a Yashraj Films project. How does it feel? "I accepted this film because Pradeep Sarkar strikes an even balance between art and commercialism. He doesn't really fall into the Shyam Benegal-Govind Nihalani bracket. Yet he's superior to your average commercial potboiler-maker," she says.
