Varsha ji, your role modeling type is

Varsha ji, the dominant success strategy your children will pick up from you is to be Hardworking. You are teaching your children that success comes from buckling down and giving 100% —whatever it is they are doing. You believe good ideas are important, but success is about implementation, rolling up your sleeves and working. What your children are learning from you is that there are no shortcuts to success — only hard work, dedication and focus.

One of the primary strengths you are modeling for your children is a willingness to engage in long and potentially arduous tasks. If they pick up on this ethic, your children will likely be the first people in their work or social groups to volunteer to undertake difficult, long-range chores. Your actions connote the importance of paying your dues to your children. And your children will likely learn that they can progress in life — socially, professionally, academically — only after they sweat it out on the lower rungs of the ladder.

As with anything in life, there are also some downsides. If your children reflect your hard work ethic, they might run the risk of being taken advantage of. People will see that your children are committed to working, nose-to-the-grindstone, and might try to push work onto them. Your children will also be so accustomed to working through every situation, they might not recognize as quickly as others, when a situation cannot be resolved by hard work alone. For that reason, it's important to make sure they develop a balanced work ethic, wherein they recognize their role in any given objective — big or small — without losing site of their own needs and desires.

I want to ask a question if anyone can answer as I know people here know a lot. We are watching Mahabharat as you know, my son asked me a question which I don't know the answer & that's what I want to ask if you can help me.

His question is "Kshatriya log raja the in general & ladai karte the, to kya sab sainik jo sena mein ladai karte the woh bhi kshatriya hote the? agar nahin to unko shastra shiksha kaun deta tha as noone was easily ready to give it to people oter than kshatriya."

Thanks Gauri, you explained it better but I did say something like that, but now I can't answer his next question then who used to train them? as no one was easily ready to train people other than khastriya. if they were not trained then how come they can fight in the battle?

Great question from your son, Manju di. Kids growing up here sometimes ask such questions that totally bowl us over. It shows that when they are making an effort to learn about their culture, they go for the details and retain that knowledge longer as compared to kids who are growing up in India and absorb culture due to osmosis. See, I have been aware of Mahabharat for all my life and never thought about it before. Excellent question.

My take on that is Kshatriyas were in the commanding position of sena and rulers of a country. The sena was a mix of all other castes (except Vaishya...and Brahmins to an extent...the Brahmins who were well versed in the kala od shastra etc were also in the commanding positions and just a handful of them actually participated in the fights). So, Kshatriyas were the rulers and commanders..... and brain behind the war kootneeti and my gut feeling is that the sena was mostly formed of dalits.

I may be wrong but that's the impression I got by watching Mahabharat. I am waiting for remarks from other veterans here so that I learn more on this topic.

Manju ji, the senapatis of the tukdi would train them. As the sena was expected to know only talwaar baazi. The commanders were the ones using dhanush baan and other divya astra shastra....so I think the senapatis of their respective tukdi would train their sena. Not sure though.
