There are very few videos of Rafi sahab's live singing. One such I remember is the the live program Rafi and Naushad sahab did on Mumbai doordarshan in late seventies (78 or 79). Rafi sahab sung Naushad sahab's 7 or 8 best songs live with studio orchestra. I distinctly remember Rafi sahab singing --
- Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki Na Jane Tum Kab Aayogi (Rafi sahab's all time personal favorite)
- O Door Ke Musafir Humko Bhi Saath le le re
- Meri Kahani Bhoolanewale Tera Jahain Abaad Rahe
- Madhuban Mein Radhika Nache Re
- O Duniya Ke Rakhawaale Sun Dard Bhare Mere Naale
With Rafi sahab's much matured and powerful voice, and the modern orchestra, all these songs sounded many times better than the originals. They were absolutely treat to hear. Each and every song was out of this world. I especially remember O Duniya Ke Rakhawale's last piece .. ab to neer baha le....ab to neer bahale.... Rafi sahab's powerful voice and the cresendo created by Naushad ji with live music still echoes in my ear. That was absolutely amazing. And this program was compared by Naushad sahab himself who had given excellent commentary on each song and Naushad sahab had done fantastic job of running the show. My dad had the audio of this program recorded on his spool tape recorder which we all used to hear many years after. Unfortunately we lost that recording now.
