Goodbye Nadeem?
Subhash K Jha
Nadeem
Even after Nadeem relocated to London, he continued to maintain ties with producers Suneel and Dharmesh Darshan by making music for their films 'in absentia'. But it looks like that connection is on the brink of breaking now that Suneel has decided to sever ties with Nadeem.
In Johannesburg, shooting his new Bobby Deol-Upen Patel-starrer, Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Suneel doesn't see the break with Nadeem as decisive.
"My brother Dharmesh and I have made almost all our films with Nadeem. But now, we both are going in for a change. Dharmesh is working with Himesh in his new film Aap Ki Khatir, and so am I. Shaka Laka Boom Boom is a full-on musical. And Himesh will make sure the film rocks," he says.
With Nadeem regulars like Mahesh-Mukesh Bhatt and the Darshan brothers shying away from the music director, is this is end of the Bollywood road for him?
"Not quite," Suneel jumps to his defense. "Nadeem is hugely talented and I'm sure I'll work with him again. But right now I need a change of pace. For Shaka Laka Boom Boom I've completely changed my outlook. I've signed Anurag Kashyap to write the script and dialogue. For the first time I'm making a young film without abandoning my old style. Bobby and Upen will make a great pair," he says.
The film, to be shot in Johannesburg, Mumbai and New York, will probably be Suneel's most expensive production to date. "But I'm not calculating costs. I just want to make the film the way I want to," he says.
The film is also the debut vehicle of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab's daughter, Sanaa.
