The Golden Age Soundtrack

TGA CD Cover

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE DECCA SOUNDTRACK FOR THE EPIC DRAMA
ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE
FEATURES ORIGINAL MUSIC BY CRAIG ARMSTRONG AND A.R. RAHMAN
** IN STORES OCTOBER 9TH **

September 27, 2007 (New York, NY) - Decca Records announces the exciting October 9th release of the soundtrack for Elizabeth: The Golden Age featuring original score by Craig Armstrong and A.R. Rahman. The movie was directed by Shekar Kapur and welcomes back the Award-winning, star-studded cast from the first installment of the historical adventure including Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush and Clive Owen. The Universal Pictures film opens nationwide to theaters on October 12th.

Craig Armstrong and A.R. Rahman bring a dynamic collaboration to the score that complements this epic story. Rahman is reunited with director Shekar Kapur, with whom he worked on the Broadway musical, Bombay Dreams. His previous work includes a host of various Indian films, including composing for Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Foreign Film. Mr. Rahman's work has also accredited him with seven Filmfare Awards for his Music Direction and Background Score, as well as three Popular Awards and four Silver Lotus Awards, in similar categories.

Mr. Armstrong brings his mystifying and poignant composition experience, having worked on Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge, which he was awarded a Golden Globe in the Best Original Score Motion Picture category. He also acquired a Grammy for his work on the score for Ray Charles biography, Ray. His score on The Quiet American gained a nomination for a World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Song Written for a Film.

The music for The Golden Age is powerful and sentimental, and is as strong and vulnerable as Queen Elizabeth herself, making the collaborative score the perfect accompaniment to the film. It is mystical as it is melodic, and allows the listener to escape to the times and live through the scenes as if they were present in Elizabeth's court.

Reprising the roles they originated in seven-time Academy Award-nominated Elizabeth, Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett (The Aviator) as Queen Elizabeth, Academy Award-winner Geoffrey Rush (Shine) as Sir Francis Walsingham return for the gripping historical thriller laced with treachery and romance. Joining them is Academy Award nominee Clive Owen (Closer) as Sir Walter Raleigh, a dashing seafarer and newfound temptation for Elizabeth. The film also stars Abbie Cornish as Elizabeth's favorite lady-in-waiting, Bess and Academy Award nominee Samantha Morton (In America, Sweet and Lowdown) as Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart.

The Golden Age finds Queen Elizabeth I facing bloodlust for her throne and familial betrayal. Growing keenly aware of the changing religious and political tides of late 16th century Europe, Elizabeth finds her rule openly challenged by the Spanish King Philip II (Jordi Molla – with his powerful army and sea-dominating armada – determined to restore England to Catholicism.

HELLO DILLI
Here are the excerpts from Rahman's tte--tte with few lucky callers when he visited Fever 104's studio

Rahman: Hi Naresh! Naresh: Hi! How are you sir? Naresh: I personally know how much I trouble you, while the recording is going on. Rahman: You have a full future ahead of you, so don't worry about it Naresh: Thank you Rahmanji. (To the listeners) When Rahmanji explains something to me and I don't understand and hit the wrong note, he gets very angry I am su . re there are a lot of other people like us in Delhi who are listening to us right now and I consider myself very lucky to start my career at a very young age, and sing with AR Rahman and win the national award. Rahman: You are a very talented singer. You have it in you to make it big. Naresh Iyer is the voice behind Roobaroo..
Caller: My name is Anthony, I am so happy, I am a big fan of Fever 104 and a big fan of yours too. Rahman: Nice to hear your voice. Anthony: I want to know which song gives you goosebumps and please don't say all songs or no songs. Rahman: Ok, interesting question. Probably one of them would be a song from Mangal Pandey , the Maula song. I am really looking forward to the cincert. Anthony: Even we all are. It will be great to hear you live.

Caller: Hi, Amrit here. Rahman: Hi how are you Amrit? Amrit: Hey Rahman it's absolutely fantastic. I wanted to know what A R Rahman is in real life? Rahman: I'm the real person you see. I don't act much. But we do get angry at times when things don't work out in the studio. Music is my God, my life is meaningless without music.

The final day of Fever 104\'s Voice Hunt auditions saw a huge rush of entries. An impromptu jig by one of the judges added glitz and fun..

By: Kadambini Thakur

Day 3 of 'Rahmania' auditions! With the change in the venue, the atmosphere and the entire gusto of the on-going auditions also underwent a change. The venue for the 3rd day of the auditions was the Mahavir Kendra, Dhaula Kuan. The last day of the audition saw the maximum crowd with Rahman fans and the aspiring seasons pouring in to try their luck.

Fever 104's Voice Hunt auditions have played a vital role in pulling in large crowds, despite the on-going Navratri celebrations. "Yes, the Navratri celebrations are very important, but this audition is equally important for me, as I am an ardent Rahman fan," said Pramod Kumar, an MBA aspirant.

We also spoke to Deveshi Sehgal, a student of Delhi College of Arts, another Rahman fan, "I am here today at the auditions because of my mother, who persuaded me participate in the auditions. I love Sufiana music a lot, and I think Rahman is also known for a Sufiana touch to his music. Do I stand a chance?"

With the semi-finals inching closer, nervousness was in the air among the contestants. "I am nervous, but lets see, how things shape up," replied Ved Pandey, who is working with LIC. "It's like having a musical show," quipped an organiser. With so much happening, even a judge couldn't stop himself from borrowing a guitar from a contestant and breaking into an impromptu jig.

A R Rahman received his first Filmfare Award for Ram Gopal Verma' Rangeela in the year 1995. The film also marked Rahman's debut as a music composer in Bollywood

'Chaiyya Chaiyya' for Mets vs. Yankees baseball promo in America

By Abid, July 3, 2006 - 04:40 IST

8 years after he composed the chartbuster track for Mani Ratnam's Dil Se, AR Rahman's 'Chhaiya Chhaiya' is still going places. Literally! Just recently the song was heard in the start and end title credits of the Denzil Washington Hollywood film 'Inside Man'.

Now leading sports channel ESPN, played almost the entire song 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' during a Mets vs. Yankees promo for the Sunday night baseball match between the two giants. As the speaker spoke about the two teams, one could clearly hear the song.

For those who are not so much into baseball , the song picturized on Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora-Khan was played for two of the biggest and most popular baseball teams in the US at around 8:02 pm eastern time.
