Lahiri gifts his gold chain to 'Ek Main...' couple

By Subhash K. Jha, Mumbai: It's Bappi Lahiri special on Zee's "Ek Main Aur Ek Tu" this week. The composer was so impressed with one of the couples for their performance that he gave them one of his gold chains.

The show, which has the best 20 participants from the "Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005", kicks off with contestants Banjyotsana and Sharib singing Bappi's "Intehaa ho gayi" from "Sharabi".

But the high point is Vishwas and Twinkle doing "Mujhe nau-lakha manga de re" from the same film. So impressed was Lahiri by this duo that he spontaneously took off one of his gold chains and presented it to the couple.

"Since I am a gold man I consider gold very lucky for me. I would like to give you two a chain," he said.

Gajendra Singh, producer-director of the show, told IANS: "Lots of judges, from singers to composers, have come on our show. But no one ever gifted the contestants anything in such a spontaneous gesture of affectionate 'aashirwaad'. I think Bappi-da won our entire team's hearts that evening."

Lahiri apparently insisted on retaining only his songs for the one-hour special.

"We wanted Bappi-da to come as a guest judge for a while. But when we suggested this, he immediately wanted all the contestants to sing his songs. At first we were reluctant. But finally we relented. We were glad that we gave in," said a "Sa Re Ga Ma" source.

Lahiri also sings the "Boombai nagariya" track from "Taxi No. 9211" in the episode

It didn't look spontaneous at all to me..😕

The first time he mentioned it was much after TV sang, after UA's performance.. and he didn't take off his chain, he'd got a separate one in a special box, and he only presented it at the end.

So much for masala.. at least don't put it in quotes..

The fact that Bappi insisted that only his songs be sung, shows the level of his self-obsession. Haven't seen this episode yet since the pgm comes one week late in Singapore. So what if he gave a gold chain? Something had to be given to compensate the contestants for singing Bappi's songs. 😊

bappida was facing income tax problem.. so, he said he will give his chain to some contestant and get it back.. tats y he gave it.. itna bhi nahin samajh sakte ho kya tum log... only for fun guys.. nothing taking it to heart...
