Daisy Irani remembers getting tired of being a child star. "Everyone would be constantly pulling my cheeks," she says. "At first it was nice, because who wouldn't want to be a star, but it got a bit boring."

As for someone who determinedly educated herself as a teenager because shooting schedules hardly allowed her to get to school in the beginning, she remembers that her advent into school was momentous.

Pandit Nehru had invited all the child stars of that time to have breakfast with him, Sanjay and Rajiv Gandhi in Delhi.

At the end of the breakfast, Irani says, "My mother told me to go to Nehruji, thank him and say, 'Sorry for the trouble.' I, on the other hand, went up to him and said, 'Sorry for the tabla.'

At which he scolded me and asked me why I didn't know proper English and didn't I go to school? I wasn't going to school at the time, so I said, 'no'." Nehru reprimanded Daisy's mother and sent them back with a recommendation letter for a local school.

But because she was 11 years by that time, school was tough. It didn't work out and eventually with the help of her older siblings she taught herself to read and write.

State awards landed on her lap from almost every corner of the country, but she was not keen to start doing single-heroine films. "I only wanted to get married, so I finally married K K Shukla, who was the director of this film in which I was doing a dance number."

The film never got released but Irani won her hero. She was married on January 21, 1971 at 19 and has three children – Kabir, Varsha and Ritu.

Well DAISY is the name of a flower but my parent didn't name me for this reason. There used to be a child actress called Daisy Irani. My grandmom used to like her so much and named me Daisy as well.

Good thing they didn't call you Honey or Aruna or Boman😆😆
