musicbug ji, since you told me that I shouldn't agree with you easily and I should give my inputs, I am doing that. But I must warn you that if you haven't read some of my previous posts, that I write a LOT !! So here goes...
Before I start, just a disclaimer: I have learnt a little bit of classical music but not as much as a lot of people on the forum. So I might be commenting like a layman hears; how a layman percieves 'sur','taal' etc etc.. These are just my opinions and on no occasion I would want to offend any fans.. I am just analysing top 5 becase I have heard them the most and they were my favourite from day 1. So before they shut all these topics.. here goes..
Debojeet
PROS: Versatile, mature voice which suits the Kumar Sanu - Udit Narayan Genre, good breath control, something about his voice which makes you want to listen over and over again
CONS: Inconsistent in patches, some problem with pitch variation, wrt SRGMP C05, I personally felt tat it was bad selection of songs, work on english pronunciation for songs
Advantage: His voice as mentioned is Kumar Sanu genre. Since Sanu sahab isnt singing much now, and Sonu Nigam and Shaan really dont fit that category, he will easily fit that bill. He needs music directors like Nadeem Sharvan, Jatin Lalit known for their tilting numbers to make the best use of him
Best performance of SRGMP - Ek Haseena Thi
Vinit Singh
Pros: Good voice quality, reasonably high control over sur, has good performance skills, sings with a lot of emotion, had the right amount of hype and mentorship that is required in this industry, sings high pitch songs with utmost ease
Cons: voice hasn't reached maturity yet, too much of hype might get into his head, he cant do pitch variations that easily;needs classical training, very good only in his genre..
Advantage : HR's hype is going to help him a lot. HR is going to give Vinit a lot of offers to sing in his movies atleast and fortunate for vinit HR is among the number 1 directors currently so its good for him
Best performance in SRGMP : Is pyaar ko main kya naam duun
Hemachandra
Pros (okie, I am trying to be unbiased here coz he was my fave contestant!): Great and fresh voice, super control over sur, uses his classical base to his advantage, does not ape the original singer, a good performer, sings with great feel and most of all, outstanding breath control, does great variations from low to medium to high pitches
Cons: voice needs a little more maturing; it cracked at times, improve his urdu diction, not so good at a high pitches or too low pitches..needs the optimum pitch, didn't show his 'real' potential till his Saathiya performance and from there, it was no looking back.
Advantage: His voice suits any contemparary hero today - its 'manly' as JL mentioned once. Also, being south indian, he has a powerful south indian industry to back him up if he doesnt make it big in Bollywood.
Best performance in SRGMP C05: being one of his HUGE fans, i would love to say all, but if i were to single out a best, it would be Tanhayee (Nahin Saamne is a hard song 'technically', but so much has been said about it, I prefer this song because of his feelings in this song.. i had goosebumps)
I am not analysing Himani and Nihira because I really cant.. they were very very very good and what Nihira was, Himani wasnt and what Himani was Nihira wasnt..they were my fave contestsants from the show .. other than Hemu ofcourse !!
