musicbug ji, since you told me that I shouldn't agree with you easily and I should give my inputs, I am doing that. But I must warn you that if you haven't read some of my previous posts, that I write a LOT !! So here goes...

Before I start, just a disclaimer: I have learnt a little bit of classical music but not as much as a lot of people on the forum. So I might be commenting like a layman hears; how a layman percieves 'sur','taal' etc etc.. These are just my opinions and on no occasion I would want to offend any fans.. I am just analysing top 5 becase I have heard them the most and they were my favourite from day 1. So before they shut all these topics.. here goes..

Debojeet

PROS: Versatile, mature voice which suits the Kumar Sanu - Udit Narayan Genre, good breath control, something about his voice which makes you want to listen over and over again

CONS: Inconsistent in patches, some problem with pitch variation, wrt SRGMP C05, I personally felt tat it was bad selection of songs, work on english pronunciation for songs

Advantage: His voice as mentioned is Kumar Sanu genre. Since Sanu sahab isnt singing much now, and Sonu Nigam and Shaan really dont fit that category, he will easily fit that bill. He needs music directors like Nadeem Sharvan, Jatin Lalit known for their tilting numbers to make the best use of him

Best performance of SRGMP - Ek Haseena Thi

Vinit Singh

Pros: Good voice quality, reasonably high control over sur, has good performance skills, sings with a lot of emotion, had the right amount of hype and mentorship that is required in this industry, sings high pitch songs with utmost ease

Cons: voice hasn't reached maturity yet, too much of hype might get into his head, he cant do pitch variations that easily;needs classical training, very good only in his genre..

Advantage : HR's hype is going to help him a lot. HR is going to give Vinit a lot of offers to sing in his movies atleast and fortunate for vinit HR is among the number 1 directors currently so its good for him

Best performance in SRGMP : Is pyaar ko main kya naam duun

Hemachandra

Pros (okie, I am trying to be unbiased here coz he was my fave contestant!): Great and fresh voice, super control over sur, uses his classical base to his advantage, does not ape the original singer, a good performer, sings with great feel and most of all, outstanding breath control, does great variations from low to medium to high pitches

Cons: voice needs a little more maturing; it cracked at times, improve his urdu diction, not so good at a high pitches or too low pitches..needs the optimum pitch, didn't show his 'real' potential till his Saathiya performance and from there, it was no looking back.

Advantage: His voice suits any contemparary hero today - its 'manly' as JL mentioned once. Also, being south indian, he has a powerful south indian industry to back him up if he doesnt make it big in Bollywood.

Best performance in SRGMP C05: being one of his HUGE fans, i would love to say all, but if i were to single out a best, it would be Tanhayee (Nahin Saamne is a hard song 'technically', but so much has been said about it, I prefer this song because of his feelings in this song.. i had goosebumps)

I am not analysing Himani and Nihira because I really cant.. they were very very very good and what Nihira was, Himani wasnt and what Himani was Nihira wasnt..they were my fave contestsants from the show .. other than Hemu ofcourse !!

NIHIRA

Strong point: Superb quality of voice, good control, will be a very successful playback singer in future. She has the ability to sing effortlessly and sings very difficult song with ease. Perfect assembly of all the qualities to become a good playback singer in one piece!!

Weakness: Not very good at stage performance. Needs improvement on stage presentation.

HIMANI

Strong Point: Again very good voice. Will be a successful singer and a performer. Really sung a few songs very well during the challenge particularly (Tuje Dekh dekh ke.....; sanjoy Bhansali episode and many more). Good performer on the stage and ability to impart emotion within a song.

Weakness: Scope of improvement in the voice quality. sometimes felt monotonous with her voice. Constant practice of voice toning will help her.

HEMCHANDRA

Strong Point: Excellent voice, excellent breath control, good combination of classical and modern voice quality. May be one of the most versatile singers among the new talented lot. Will excel like anything in future. Good propect to invest😛. Cannot forget Naahi Samne..

Weakness: Need to improve a few hindi pronunciations (though very difficult to notice with music). Urdu coaching may provide value addition to his singing.

VINIT

Strong Point: Probably the best with high pitch voice. Really sung quite well in most of the episodes. Good control over his voice and knows many technical things about singing like (placing of the microphone while singing). Excellent in shifting one scale to another without deviating from the rythm. Good prospect.

Weakness: Need to mature his voice and add versatility to his singing. Other universal weakness is HR😡. Need to go for a classical vocal training.

DEBOJIT

Strong Point: Versatile, has improved tremendously within 7 months period. Good control over his breath and has a very matured voice. Perfect quality for romantic songs. Occupy the stage very well and really take the audience along with his singing. Sings KISHOR's song very well.

Weakness: Limited singing ability with high pitch. Needs huge improvements in Hindi pronunciations.

An Indian music fan

But one performer should have the capability to lead the audience into his/her act or singing. Nihira sings so well as if singing is a very natural to everyone. Have you ever seen her smile disappearing while singing?

Ibeg to differ from your opinion. Dancing is surely not a criteria for a good singer. Is SAREGAMAPA program aimed at finding an dancing singer actor? Nihira sings so well, that she does get the crowd involved in her songs. Watch how other contestants, mentors, juges and the audience sway in appreciation when she sang all the songs. Is that not leading the audience? She gets completely immersed in her art of singing. I attend many calssical concerts here. I get completely carried away by the singing of a good artist. If the artist did not sing well she or he could not have succeeded in doing that. If Z Tv was looking for singing acrobats, they should have not accepted her as a contestant. Nihira smiled many times during her singing. Watch Bunty Aur Babli song "Chup chup se". One thing I admit that couple of times her Hindi deserted her. I am now more convinced than before that the criteria of a good singing performance has drastically changed. In future even classical singers will be expected to get up start gyrating their bodies to get crowd involved.

Wow, surpremi ji that's the true spirit.

Kudos to you for following up with these two and making friends with them and also applaud these two for the humility they portray.Let's hope they remain as down to earth as they are now and soar great heights in the world of soulful music.
