In the movie..GD is ofcourse disillusioned with life...Waheeda has played a prostitute. She has trememndous amount of love and compassion for GD, but knows that he will never accept her. Gd considers her to be only his good and understandingg friend. In this song, GD is standing on a terrace looking down on the street in his own thoughts, completely unaware of what Waheeda is going thru. Waheeda on the other hand is fighting desperately to keep her emotions in control. In a sec, she moves towards him to take him in her arms and in the next instant she draws back due to her fears. She is shown in this turmoil thruout the song....now relate the lyrics and the frenzy the song reaches at the end...........very very tastefully picturised as was GD's trademark.👏👏👏

I love all and all her songs. ok. may be not all but still. theres only a few compared to most of the grt singers. they are just grt. Her naughty and 'chulbuli' feeling to the songs are superb. Babuji dheerey, ai dil mujhe bata de, mera naam....
the only song i think i dont like so much is Na jao saiyan...nothing to do with Geeta Dutt, more to do with the song itself.

I love her bengali songs too (just a few we have):
