Hey Guys,

Looks like some of the habits and the shenganians of the mentors on screen is rubbing off on some of you.

Yesterday and in the last couple of weeks there have been some rather "dirty jokes" posted on the forum.

Maybe it is time to remind you all of some basic ground rules of the forum.

  • The Section is meant to discuss music and SRGMP show.
  • The posts made here should normally stick to this topic only.
  • Chatting and general talk should be taken out of the forum onto your personal chat messangers or by PM.
  • We cater to members of all ages and jokes/ comments/ suggestions, if written, should be such which will not shock any member.
  • Vulgur jokes and comments, how much ever you or your friends may like them, cannot be posted on the forum. This forum, as we have repeated above, is meant for members of all ages. We have members as young as 13 and as old as 51. We need to respect their sensibilities too.
  • No personal comments please. You cannot point fingers at ANY MEMBER. Be it a joke, a prank, or anything else.

And we have a request to all other members.

If you do not like the colour of a joke or a post, please do ignore it. As a public discussion forum, we do cater to all kinds of members and there are many members who may even appreciate "dirty Jokes". If you do not like the general tenor of it, please ignore. However, if any member has used such jokes to target you or any of your friends or any other member on the forum, please do report it immediately or send a pm to any of the Moderators or Global Moderators who may be online at that time. Someone will come to help you for sure. We DO NOT CONDONE any member who makes a comment about a fellow member.

I hope all of you read this and bear this in mind when you post here.

We are all here to enjoy. We are here because we like sharing our thoughts with all of you here. While we are here, we must remember, that just as in life, we meet all kinds of people and we must be able to keep the forum such that all of us can be here together. If the forum gets too offensive, and members start leaving us, then it would be a shame for the whole section. So please do bear this in mind and we thank you for your cooperation.

IF Development Team.

Thanks Priya.

Please this is my request too. Do listen to and abide by the rules above. It'll help everyone. It'll make the forum a much better place.

As Priya has said it is really very shamefull that some members are deciding to leave the forum just because of all those comments being made and attacks being made. Please refrain from doing that.

And don't start fighting in this topic too.

Hello!

Priya is 100% right. We have noticed some non-suitable topics being posted in SRGMP section and other sections.

India Forums does allow freedom of speech; however, there are some limitions that one HAVE to keep in mind while making a post on India Forums.

The rules are made not because we want to be able to warn you or tell you what to post and what not to post. Rules are here because we have members from all age groups. Some of our members are as young as 12 years old. We do not want anything on India Forums which is not suitable for all ages.

India Forums is a place where everyone comes to have fun and not to read such dirty topics. If members notice such topics being post, please report it to a GM or a CM who is online at that time. Please keep this in mind in the future.

First of all, i commend and salute everyone for wanting to keep the forum a healthy place! In any case, i am the last person here who has either the ability or the right to suggest what policy you want to establish for proper behavior on the forum. So please consider following inexperienced views in that light:

1. i think policy/ laws should reflect objectives, in this case what one wants to accomplish through the forum. If you want a place where people exchange buddy lists and exchange ideas with like-opinionated people, then you get one set of policies. If you want a rocking forum, then rocking technically means a place where we have a lot of "free-flow". When you put limits, you constrain creativity and dynamism. With some of the negatives, you perhaps throw away a lot more of the positives.

2. I feel that policy should also be such that you dont find most people breaking the law. If you set a 25mph speed limit in a zone where people can safely drive at 50mph, you'll find most people breaking the law. And then, respect for the law is diminshed. Or worse, the law is applied only to punish people who cannot represent themselves, in this case people who stand as individuals without forming coteries. In common parlance, the big guy who can buy the witnesses gets away, the little guy is left holding the bag.

3. Policies should be applied uniformly and consistently. I can point to threads which exist even today where people have indulged in as much public slandering as you'd find anywhere, yet these have been kept open in the name of "winning back the peace". And there are threads where some very esteemed folks have inadvertently given "sheh" to that behavior. Do we still operate on the basis of who the person is in our country, rather than on what the behavior is?

4. there is a quote from one of the honorable moderators about how "sarcasm" and "negative opinions" would not be tolerated. Well, such threads exist even today, so consistent application definitely seems to be a problem. Personally, even if those viewpoints are at opposition to mine, i find those threads "rocking". They give one an opportunity to think through, deal with and learn to counteract harsh opinions, an ability which is so so essential in the world outside. If we cannot deal with this even in the realtive anonymity of the web, are we the kind of folks really worth listening to?

5. I think we mean well here- we do not wish to hurt anyone here. But like anywhere else, what one finds tolerable, someone else will find hurtful. So who arbitrates? Are they technically qualified to do so? Do we want folks so scared that they give up a lot of their expression in order to conform? Is that what we really want? To my mind, that would be a boring dead forum, but then i do not know as much as all the other folks here.

6. i wld have thought that simply banning cheap, crass language would go a long way. One can always add more rules, but at least one shld have policy that be enforced consistently, rather than having to turn away when it does not meet other objectives.

sorry i brought it up. did not really know, so i thought i wld seek guidance from the elders.

btw, forum is a word probably derived from Roman Fora. It is the place where we had the famous Roman Senate from an age-old era, where we had Caesar stabbed, where disagreements, heated and otherwise, brutal and honest, flowed freely. That to my mind was a thriving rocking forum, and is the basis for a lot of the Parliaments and Senates we have today.

thanks priya . I hope people pay heed to this annoucement and act accordingly.I am really tired of editing profanities and banning and warning people. We really do not get any pleasure sending out warnings or banning people or come out with such annoucements. We are forced to do this due to the actions and words of a certain few that forget that the forum although is a place for anyone to write their thoughts is not a place for people to vent out their anger at others by being abusive and use profanities for the cause. We expect all to be sensitive to their fellow members and not use language that not anyone appreciates.

I agree with the general meaning of the post Jemdi... and I think i went into HR fanclub once and saw that u tld some other member who is not an HR fan to leave since it was just for fans.... but doesn't this apply to all fanclubs??

I started the Debo fan club and soooooooooo many vinit fans came in to bash Debo, calling all of us, debo fans idiots. why was this rule not observed then? i had to fend them off and when they did not leave, i just kept on ignoring them, and when i couldn't take it anymore i had to ignore my own thread and not go there
