Regionlism should be avoided -- SRGMP

SRGMP changed to a reality show format in 05 but it fanned unnecssary regionalism amongst its fans and viewers. While I am all for free media, they should do a orientation for its mentors and ask them not to say anything that might encourage regionalism amongst its viewers. I was a nuetral viewer with no favorites. (okay okay... nihira and hemu were my favorites.. by just a little bit 😊)

Things were good till the last 6 or 7 stage with mentors being impartial with their praise and then it went worse, examples being AS and HR complaining about votes from NE (they only mentioned Assam), ID saying things like "Debo, daro mat, Assam hamara saath hai" (how dumb is that!!!) and zonal votes being read out.

I am a huge fan of the show. It might be difficult for Gaj to go back to its old format after SRGMP '05 but he can at least do this for the sake of the country.

What do you guys think?

I think the whole regionalism was started by Himesh, Aadhesh, GJ and Zee. What was the need to do the breakdown on the zonewise, region wise and Shaan adding fuel to fire by saying you got 80% from here and that and this. That was so unnecessary.

I think Indian Idol is better because all they say is bottom 3 and who lost. THe show producers and organisers should be blamed for this mainly.

How about the following plan for SRGMP 2006:
The viewers will know only the name of all contestants from the very beginning of the show and the state/region of all the contestants would remain undisclosed ;-)

Oh ya, I totally agree. But unfortunately regionalism is coming slowly to II as well, where Karunya was in bottom 3 AGAIN inspite of a brilliant performance of Lagan Lagi. HR should have been proud to hear a son from his movie rendered to nothing short of perfection.

and the South hardly bothered to vote now that Hema wasn't there (everywhere else, the vote count went up dramatically for the finals). When he was there, they had given him 18L/ 21L, like 86%. At times, "no action" also indicates how someone is thinking/ deciding.

yaar, regionalism is there everywhere, even here in the U.S. Nothing wrong with it unless one chooses to make it a bad word.

the winner will find a way to win folks from opposing regions/ viewpoints. the loser will sulk and find excuses

Thats true. But did yousee 27thepisode. Ilike the way the judges complimented Karunya and they got a Gujarathi lady to say good things about him. At least the show is doing its part in helping the public make right decision and thats how far anyone can go in public voting. But on the contrary, in SRGMP the producers, anchor, and the judges kept harping on the regional votes issue so much that it became real.

Karunya might sitll lose because he might not get enough votes, but again I am sure he expects that, because South does not watch these shows.

Again I did not think Hema would win SGRMP not because of anyone's fault but not enough fan base and popularity of SGRMP in South.
