Ismail ready to help Assam singers
By Surajit Khaund
GUWAHATI, Feb 19 – "… Main Assam ke liye kuch bhi karne ko taiyaar hoon (I am ready to do anything for Assam). During the last eight months, the people of the State have done a lot for Debojit." This was the reaction of eminent music director Ismail Darbar on the eve of the mega final of Zee TV's Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa programme. The classical maestro is now busy with Debojit for giving the final touches to his skills so that he can deliver his hundred per cent in the mega final scheduled to be held in Mumbai on February 24.
"In fact, I wanted to visit Assam to offer my sincere thanks to the people of the State for their support, but the hectic schedule of Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa prevented me from doing that. Anyway, I will soon visit the State," Ismail Darbar told this correspondent over telephone from Mumbai.
Darbar now spends most of his time with Debojit for the final rehearsals. This was quite apparent, as when this correspondent called him up, at the other end of the telephone sounds of guitars and other instruments could be heard. Ismail Darbar, who is a stalwart in Hindustani classical music, has given everything for his disciple Debojit so that he can perform his best in the final.
"…Assam ke logon ki duayein hamesha unka saath raha hai aur age bhi rahega (the blessings of the people of Assam always are with Debojit and it will remain so till the final," an elated Ismail Darbar said.
It has been an equally tough challenge for Guru Ismail, as he had to face strong criticism from different circles for extending support to Debojit, reposing his full faith in him. But despite all the criticism, Ismail Darbar has been nurturing Debojit resolutely right from the beginning. The support is simply based on the potential of Debojit, as he may become a very good playback singer of the country.
"My support will continue for any singer of Assam and the North-east. Ye maine dilse bola (I am telling this from the core of my heart). Whenever they want my support, I will be there with open hands," he said. He also appealed to the people of Assam to cast their votes for Debojit till the final.
Buoyed by the support from the people of the North-east and his Guru Ismailji, Debojit is bracing himself to accept the challenge of Sa-Re-Ga-Ma-Pa. "I am marching forward for the mega final with blessings of my State, and will devote myself whole-heartedly to keep their hopes alive", Debojit said.
The stage is all set for the mega final to be held in Mumbai for which the people of the State are keeping their fingers crossed. They want only one winner and that has to be Debojit.
