I read over internet in July that Zee requested ARR ti preside over but he cited busy schedule as reason not to come. Probably God granted him some divine vision and he foresaw this day....

HR Round no way...

The earlier show TVS sa re ga ma was so good I used to love it and had been a follower since then.

But the innocence is gone, these singers are good but now there are makeovers, Politics, regionalism, melodrama, and wrong publicity.

The music is gone from Sa re Ga ma and thank god good MDs like ARRehman, Illayaraja and even Ismail Darbar should stay away from this.

I dont wanna condemn anybody but I do not like the music by either AS or HR.

I like Jatin/Lalit though, good calm and nice music and they are big fans of RD.(BOSS) just like me.

Im honoured by your arrival, I loved your post on taal, hope to read many such more.
Im a bass guitarist actually, In my humble opinion, he is the only one to have used bass guitar to the fullest.
You will be surprised that this instrument connects music of Pancham & Illaiya Rajaji.

Great Article Sinhaji. I was thinking of starting a thread for IllayaRaja (which means Young King) myself. After all, I've listen to his music for 25 years now.

This is what Pancham had to say about IR.

IR is 10 years ahead of his time!.

Here are 10 of my all time favs of IR.

1.Andhi Mazhai (Raja Parvai) -- This was a song which everyone in TN turned around and said, this is something different. IR composed 36 tunes for this one. Kamal went back home and called IR to say that he likes the first one.

2. Allithantha Boomi (Nandu) -- The movie was a flop, but is still retains a place in my heart for excellent picturization by Mahendran.

3. Madai thiranthu (Nizhalgal) -- This is a situational songs where the actor goes and asks for a chance to compose music. No wonder IR was at his best.

4. Kanne Kalaimane (Mondram Pirai) -- Song wonderfully by Yesudas. This song is the original for Surmai aakhiyon me

5. Mari Mari Ninne (Sindhu Bhairavi) -- Got lot of flak for changing the original way it should be sung. But, I had never heard the song before until IR put it in his film. He got a national award for this. He also told Chitra to skip her exams that day and said she's going to go places with this song, well she got the National award.

6. Ithu mounamana neram / Thakida thathimi(Salangai Oli/Sagara Sangamam) - National Award for the movie.

7. Mandram vandha thendralluku (Mouna Ragam) -- Wonderfully sung by SPB, PC Sriram's brilliant photography and Mani's excellent direction. I've never seen any better picturization.

8. Kanmani Andbodu (Gunaa -- S.Janaki, Kamal) -- Kamal recites a letter and the heroine sings it back. Never has been S.Janaki any better.

9. Poongatru Thirumba (Muthal Mariyathi) -- Folk music at it's best. Listen to it once.

10. Poove Sempoove - Magnetic voice of KJ Yesudas with fusion music.

There are tons more, but had to limit it 10.

Had ample opportunity to listen to Ilaiya Raja when I had not learnt to appreciate music..But now when I listened to his instrumental album - How to name it, It is like - no words to describe this genius - I think violins have been invented only for him..

How about "Nothing but wind", where Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia plays the Flute?.

Listen to it once and see if you can pick the better one (it's been more than a decade now, but still can't decide which one is better).

I would like to confirm that the Thiruvachakam (or Thiruvasakam) music has been released.
Just for those who dont know what Thiruvachakam means....there was a saint called Manickavachakar in the Pandya Kingdom (present day Madurai) around the 11th century. He was a great Siva Bhakta...Thiru means holy and vachakam means words...the Thiruvachakam is a collection of bhakti poems composed by Manickavachakar on Lord Shiva. The Periya Puranam (the Puran that deals with the stories of Lord Shiva and his bhaktas) says that the Lord at Chidambaram personally acted as a scribe for Manickavachakar's compositions. It is the Lord that gave the title "Thiruvachakam" to the collected work and left it inside the shrine at the Chidambaram temple. These are famous works...supposed to be rich in Bhakti.
It is this Thiruvachakam that Iliayaraja has set to symphony...something like setting Tukaram's abhangs to western music. Takes guts and imagination!
