Nice post Sandeepa and very good observations. I agree with you on most of the points and at last have found someone who echoes my thoughts on Himani and Nihira - that they both are extremely competent and talented and if wishes could come true I would make them the two winners of the contest - unless there is a bias for one male and one female.

Hey Sandeepa,
I was going to write a similar "long post" after watching the epsode yesterday...but it seems like I'd be wasting my time coz you've said al lthat I wanted to say!

I was moved msot by Himani's performace yesterday. She actually sang the original Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan version of the song...which is far better than the Lata M version. As for versatality in the two singers, agree. I think nihira is far better at the Asha B kind of songs only coz she seems to enjoy them more and therefore sings them with a whole lot more expression.

Hemachandra is by far the best male singer. Thought he sung the song far better than Sonu because the song required a deeper, heavier voice.

Agree with you about Vineet as well...while that high "Fida" note gave me goosebumps....he faultered on the lower notes....needs his voice broken badly!

Most of all, agree with the fact that this particular episode was the most engaging one in the recent past. Kunal and Diya made all the difference...they even rubbed off on the mentors who seem almost as interested in the show as they were in the past!

Sandeepa-ji, I also enjoyed the Kajra Mohabbatwala song at the end. From this song it was clear that Nihira and Himani are the best singers here, boys and girls combined. But somehow, the extra jhtaka on "dala" and "kurbaan" that was present in the Shamsad Begum version was missing.

Nice post Sandeepa. Kunal and Diya were great. Their comments were far better than Amrita-Shahid, and I would go on to say better than, Kumar Sanu, Daler Mehndi.

Diya's comments were so much pertaining to each song. Liked the way she danced, was enjoying but with dignity. Also I loved it when she said that each participant is a complete package on their own.

Yes my thoughts exactly. Diya was absolutely right that each singer is a complete package of their own. My personal favourite was Nihira and Hemani for the females and Hema and Vinit in Males. These four were absolutely MAGNIFICENT in their own way and at this point I cannot decide who was the best amongst them. As far as Twinkle was concerned, she was better then what her recent performances have been and Ujaini was equally good as well. The next in line was Debo and finally Paresh who made a mess of the song. As Kunal said it was not Paresh's day.
But after watching this episode, Hema did not deserve a Yellow.
As far as Kunal and Diya were concerned, they were very genuine in their comments and Diya was very graceful even when she danced unlike Amrita who acted like a school kid.

Hi all,

I just saw the Diya/Kunal epidsode tonight and I must say...I really enjoyed this show a lot. For a long time it felt as though the magic was gone from SRGMP,

most important comment for last, regarding Nihira and Himani. Nihira sang a peppy Ashaji number while Himani sang a more mellow Lataji number. Both sang superbly. There has been much discussion/argument on this forum about how Nihira has a range to sing anything and Himani can only sing certain types of songs but never the Lataji/Alkaji type songs. I think today both girls proved that they can sing in different ranges and styles. Usually we would expect Himani to sing a song like "Rangeela Re" and Nihira to sing a song like "Uppar Khuda", but what a treat to hear this reversed and to hear them sing songs a bit out of their genre (for lack of a better word)! No matter who wins the contest, both of these girls have very bright futures ahead of them and the blessings of their families, friends, gurus, mentors, and the thousands of fans whose hearts they have touched. Bas. I'm done and I will eat my dinner and then read all your posts.

Sandeepa ,

Your post is probably the most intelligent unbiased post I have read so far and kudos for having the patience to pen it all down. I agree with most of what you say except I cannot shake away the fact that Nihira is far superior than Himani to be compared to her. Personally the whole bandwagon of Himani, Ujjaini, Raktima, Keka, Twinkle , Vinita and Sanchali were in one genre with Himani leading the band but of the same calibre, pretty much , give or take a bit. Nihira is alone at the top and Sunanda was alone in her own unique spot too but didn't quite display the range.

In guys Vinit has been astoundingly technically accurate but his voice needs maturing. Debu is brilliant but isnt consistent. In his better moments he is ahead of the pack. Hema is consistent but somehow cannot touch people's pulse every time he sings. Remember the earlier episodes? He sang just as brilliantly but didn't quite touch your heart every time. He lacks that intangible something. Same as Sharib - sings brilliantly but somehow doesn't leave a mark. It is not a co-incidence that Sharib never got a straight "Green" from any judge.Actually Irfan was a better singer than Sharib in my opinion although his utter lack of confidence was his undoing.

Anyway...Sandeepa...really liked your post !
