Professional jelousy has been an age old issue that existed then during the hay days of Lata and Asha and it's a problem till now. I have read that Asha had some thing to do with Geeta Dutt's career. O. P. Nayar himself said that he had neglected Geeta Dutt and gave Asha Bhonsle more preference and later on he regretted his decision. Geeta Dutt later died heart broken and not being able find work inspite of being superbly talented.

I agree with u, because of Lata the song became a classic. Even though I dont support her gesture of sidelining her own sister but still I feel sometimes bad things do give good results.

I definitely agree with u guys. Thank god today the situation isnt as bad as before, I mean earlier in most of the hindi movies it was only Lata, kishore, asha, rafi, or more 2-3 of singers, who kind of dominated Indian music industry, but now we have soo many singers I gues more than 40, plus there are so many newcomers too & there are no dominating singers like before.
Same with Yesudas ;was not allowed to be given an equal opportunity by Kishore Kumar and Yesudas was sidelined
err....😳 but this news doesn't sound realistic, if you could please tell some thing more about it or site an article it shall be great.

Kishore da was 12 yrs elder than Yesudas, competition seems unlikely + the two were singers of diff style & mode.

Thanks for sharing this story Indradhanush

Well, I have read several stories about Lata Asha feud. Aparently Lata was insecure about Asha's success and versatility and she tried her best to screw Asha's career.

Also Lata refused to sing with Geeta Dutt at one point of time fearing she might get overshadowed by Geeta's emotionally brilliant singing althougth its a well known fact that Lata was influenced by Geeta's singing in the beginning of her career.

I have read a lot about their so called fued.

If you read right from the time lata was forced to take up singing to fend for her family after her father's demise, you are left with sadness, awe and a feeling of admiration for a girl who literally had to claw her way up from a naive young teen[ 14?] to the queen she is today. Asha was headstrong, immature, insecure girl, who just refused to listen to lata where her personal relationships were concerned. Despite that, lata supported her throughout. This is from what i have read over the years.

I could write more, am not going to do so.

I am trying not to be judgemental here.just stating facts about what i have read. May be right or wrong.

It was not easy for women in the 1940, to the 80s in India. despite progress, it is still tough.

Who are we to judge or pass remarks about their personal or professional lives. they did the best for what they thought right at that point of time in their lives.

BTW how infalliable are we personally or professionally?

Every person always feels they could have lived their past better.

In that scenario, let us applaud these women who have made a name for themselves professionally and set a fantastic trend which is impossible to replicate.👏👏👏

Let us also applaud the music composers who gave us the best music, which will never be forgotten in the years to come👏👏👏

Let us not paint them in glowing colours.

Even idols have feet of clay.😳

I agree with you MM that every great person has his/her share of insecurities and the post is not made to belittle anyone of them..The music industry of the past was not transparent and there are many stories of monopoly, politics, heart break and so on..That's also part of history of the music industry which we can't deny...
I love Lata Mangeshkar but I happen to be a great fan of Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt too. Whatever they did in personal life doesn't matter much as all of them have given us so many gems to listen 😊
