Breathing exercise will help them with singing for sure but what about over all health? Abhilasha is very young right now and has a long way to go. I realize this is a singing competition but we are "watching" it. Thoda dhyaan toh chala hee jata hai over all packaging per. She was not over weight during VOI days - at least not to the level she is now.
Varsha di, correct me if I am wrong but my impression is that westerners sing from the nabhi but Indian music relies a lot on gala. And most Indians, especially the middle class onwards, are over weight. It is definitey not a requirement to be a good singer despite many Indian sigers being over weight. I strongly feel that Shankar should also focus on his weight issues.

I agree on the weight issues as far as health is concerned...Abhilasha and for shankar...
Pawni, Shradha from LC1..even Nihira at one time had gained bit wt...Abhilasha defo has wt issues..She is very young and must watch out...
I think even though Indian music gurus say "Gale se gaao" ya "Gala sunder hai" still good singing comes from Nabhi which has more control...The ones who sing inbetween are considered upar upar se gaya...Which voice basically is coming from mouth and above...I might be wrong here...😳
And my post abv was in general not defending over weight singers...Mere observation...😃

Acc to teaching in Indian classical swaras should come from Nabhi.
At the same time too much gestures are not wanted.
Asha ji pointed out once making funny faces (due to vocal strain) is strictly contracindicated.
Most of the practice sessions centre around aakars.
Nabhi is the key but good throat is a must.

You are welcome Dabulls ji.

The sound actually starts from the area of naabhi and progresses into more audible form as it travels through the voice box helped by lips, tongue etc. Sound progresses in 4 stages ; Para, Pashyanti, Madhyama and Vaikhari right from the navel onwards in human body.

Para is soundless, beyond audible range.
Pashyanti is more loud
Madhyama; and Vaikhari are more intense and audible form.

Unless she changed her last name, she may not be the same Abhilasha. Also, if you check out the utube videos of SVOI, she does not sound the same

Just out of curiosity, are her parents are from AP?
