Rehman's speech was lack-luster. His dialogue "Mera paas Mai hai" seemed out of place in Oscars, which 90% of the international audience didn't understand. He should have connected with the audience.

He said he always choose love over hate, as if others (we all) choose hate. He was given the greatest platform to speak to international audience and he didn't take advantage of it, he totally blew it. He didn't come across a great composer. He lost the opportunity to thank his mentors or the Indians who helped his to come to this level., or to thank Bollywood for encouragement and respect. He spoke so fast that Guljar's name was not clearly heard. Overall not good speech or appearance.

He should have talked about Indian music and how it has influenced him to be a great composer and his love of music..nothing of that sort..

Btw, Rehman's only song I like is "Tere Bina" I don't think Jai Ho is very good.

I am happy for India that he has won, but miffed that he lost a great opportunity to convey to world something regrading Indian music and lost the opportunity to thank lot of people in the industry, who must have helped him achieve this level sucess.

The award was for SDM and he thanked the people involved with that movie. I personally liked the fact that he spoke in both Hindi and Tamil and as OBJ says he spoke English with no fake wannabe accent. I found his speech quite cute actually. Resul's speech was nice also. He dedicated the award to the country.

^^ We should stick to comparing apples with apples. AR Rahman with SRK? Naah!!! Apples and other fruits don't mix too well unless they are in a fruit salad 😉

Yes he could have said something better.

But I have no complaints as he has proven himself.

Me neither!!! He is a music composer and he does extremely well at that!!! As far as acceptance speeches? AR should hire me to make some eloquent noise, pro bono of course, since this is just the begining of his award winning career 😉

Rehman got a rare opportunity for Rehman to connect with his audience and thank all the people who have helped him to succeed.
I was very much looking forward to see the Rehman as a person. He was very dissappointing. He may never get this opportunity again and he blew it. He doesn't have a presence neither way with words.
I am happy that an Indian won an oscar, but Rehman is one of the great Indian musicians,. There are many who supercede him.

lol we indians have multiple issues at any given scenario - dont we?
1) if someone speaks in an articulate way like amitabh - they say he is only being poliltically correct /diplomatic.
2)if someone tries to be witty like SRK - they say he is good taking digs at others
3) is someone tries to weigh their words and be precise like aamir - they say he is calculative
4) if someone is trying to connect with them like aiswarya - they say she appears fake
5) if someone is trying be humble, grounded like rahman - they say he wasnt presentable or in your words lack-lustre
6) or say if someone like anil kapoor shows some excitement - they say he lacked the class
its like karen toh kya karen?

actually the problem arises when the same person fits into all the six categories 😆
One person might have problem with only one point,
but if a person has problem with all the six points,
i have a problem with him😆
